Do Garder Snakes hurt a garden?
I found my little buddy in my garden while I was watering the flowers. I have lots of frogs and now there's a garder snake. Are they hurtful or should I just let the little guy be?
They eat frogs and things like that. They will not hurt your garden.
They are actually beneficial for your garden. They eat bugs, slugs, and other harmful critters.
Other than what you trample getting away from them, no--they're not harmful. Like everyone else has said, they're actually helpful. Personally, I'd rather keep the frogs and get rid of the snake! lol
Garter snakes are quite harmless, eating only bugs, slugs, etc. When I was quite a little girl I used to catch them in my grandfather's vegetable garden, and my mother said I used to cry when they got out of my pocket. When my sons were young my oldest found a place where he could catch them, and we kept them in a terrarium. Definitely, let him be. He (and his/her family) will help keep harmful insects out of your garden.
If there's enough frogs to attract a snake, there's probably enough to survive despite the snake. The interesting thing now, what's the next step up the food chain that will come into your garden? Maybe you'll spot a hawk?
Ha ha ha, Dawn. Only you would think of THAT! LOL! Always one step ahead...
Oh I love those little guys! I wish I had one...
