What to do (re: storing someone's stuff)..possibly a small legal thing

A little background. I've been storing this girls stuff since before Christmas. She was living in a safe house and needed space, I had space. Well it was supposed to be gone ages ago and I'm getting the run around. I was told the beginning of June, then July. Then her dad emailed me and said "She's in Ontario, but I'll come and pick it up." I set up a date with him and he didn't show up and I haven't heard from them since. I've tried calling them and she is no longer returning my calls. The last message I left her was an angry one and I told her I'm going to find out my rights to just get rid of it if it wasn't picked up by that night.

Help! My basement is full of this girls stuff and I don't know what to do since I can no longer get a hold of her. I really didn't want to get rid of it, she's a mom with 3 but I can't continue to just have it in my basement. I need the space for our bikes and the like. I'm sick of having to move things around just to access the basics of my basement, like my extra fridge, my freezer, my washer and dryer, etc.

You'd have to talk to someone who knows Canadian law. In the U.S. I'd send a letter by Certified Mail telling her that if her possessions are not removed from my premises within X days of her receipt of the letter (with certified mail you get a receipt) I will dispose of them as I see fit. But that's in the U.S., and in Pennsylvania. It seems logical, but I don't know that it would be viewed as logical by Canadian law.

And, to add, if it's been there that long...she apparently doesn't really need it.

Well, Ginny is right, you need to look into the laws of Canada, and make sure you protect yourself. Still, if she had put them in commercial storage, and didn't pay, and was unable to be contacted, I know they would auction off the stuff. (At least they do in the US) Good luck!
