How do you pronounce the word pirate? Is it pie- rit or pie-rut or pie-rat I am trying to keep my little guy from saying pie-rant..LOL
We say "pie-rit" here.
I would think "pie-rat"
Pie-rit here!
pie-rit here, too!
I've been sounding it out, and I say somewhere between pie-rut and pie-ret. I don't know if that's regional - I've been fighting the Philly accent for as long as I've lived here (not always successfully).
pie-rut here.
Well, I say the 'rit' part, but not the 'pie' part...at least not like you would pronounce apple 'pie'. I don't know how to explain how I pronounce the 'pi' part...maybe 'piyhh'. I've been told by a speech therapist that I pronounce my long vowels in a different fashion than she's used to...she says it's a regional thing.
"pie-rit"
Pie-ret.
Pie-Rut
Pie-ret. All last weekend I kept saying the Ca-rib-be-an and my kids kept correctly me that it should be pronounced Care-RA-be-an.
All I know is that Johhny Depp is one YUMMY Pie-Rit! Can't wait to see the movie!
I never know how to say Caribbean, either! LOL! I think I have said it both ways, myself!
Pie-ret
Pie-rit
Pie rit
After looking it up...the official answer is this...pie-rit or pie-rt (which is why I think it gets confusing. But if used with an ing it is pie-rat-int or pie-ra-ted. Gotta love the english language. As for ca ri be an...or ca rib ean. I think either is acceptable (haven't looked it up though).
I say Pie-rut (at least I think I do....) Thanks a lot, now I'm going to be going around saying "pirate" to myself and everyone will think I'm crazy! LOL
LOL...that is how we felt at my house. Then trying to correct speech of my little guy, and hubby and I disagree, so he is hearing two different things..rofl
I just saw an ad on TV for "Pirates of the Caribean" and the announcer said, "Experience pie-rats". Maybe it IS a regional thing.
pie-rut
