Mirena IUD
Has anyone used the Mirena IUD for birth control? My doctor recently suggested I use it for my heavy periods and PMS. From what I've read it sounds like a good option for me. My only concern is that my hyper pigmentation that I've gotten from being on the pill years ago and from being pregnant will get worse. I'm also cautious since I don't know anyone who has tried it before.
I used it for about 18 months after I had Timmy just over four years ago. I didn't have much luck with BCPs after he was born so my doctor recommended it. I love it. It was easy and nothing for me to remember. Also after about 4 months my periods stopped altogether. I had it removed about a year and a half ago now. To let nature take it's course and see if we would get pregnant again. Only time will tell. Given the choice again, I'd opt for it again.
I'm getting it in a few weeks. I have a few friends who use it and LOVE it. I have never heard any bad comments about it.
My cousin just had her THIRD child while on it. It fell out somehow and she got pregnant. She was *very* grumpy about it but has a beautiful little boy! Luckily she has family nearby to help with the kids. They were pretty set on only having 2. I told her that, if it were a girl, she could have named her Mirena!
Okay, I was thinking about it until you said that Heidi!!! LOLOL!!!! Now there's no way. We don't want any more children! Guess I'll stick to my grumpy, moody self on my trusty pill!
Our doctor did warn us that they can fall out. He told us to check as there are "strings" that can be felt on the outside.
I have two friends that have one and LOVE it. They have it for years now with no issues and no periods. You just check for a string once a month. HTH BTW-No matter what method you choose, you'll always find someone who is that small percentage that got pregnant.
Thank you so much for all your information. It looks like a good option- mostly for my PMS and heavy periods. The birth control side is a plus. I'm glad to hear women really do like it.
Eve,you are so right. My DD had her tubes cut, tied, and burnt when her second child ( another boy) was 3 months old.Her DR said this method was so indepth that there was no way she could reverse it,even if she wanted to.Well,5 months later she got pregnant! The DR said there must have been a pin-hole in her tubes. But after the baby was born, they minutely checked her tubes, and couldn't find a whole anywhere! So,the DR said"All I can say is ,God meant for this baby to be here!"And,it was a beautiful redheaded baby girl,we call our Miracle Baby!!
