Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive June 2006: Need help finding an archive
We were at a family reunion camping trip this past weekend and discovered that a couple of the teenagers were doing that pinching neck thing to get dizzy and light headed (my 19 yr old nephew brought a friend who showed them how to do this). I had read about it here and had talked to my boys (15,8) about it and what could happen. My 15 year old, 9th grader, had never heard of it at school and said he would not try it anyway. We let the boys (we have 6 - 15 yr old boys in the family and a few older) have their own fire and stay up later than the adults, they got a little loud and I warned them to quite down, so I asked in the morning what was going on and one of my 15 yr old nephews start telling me about it and I asked if he did it and he said yes, so I explained it all to him and how kids are dying from doing it and he promised he wouldn't ever try it again. I told him he did the right thing in telling the truth and I mentioned it to my sister (his mother) also who had not heard about it. I am trying to find the article so I can pass it along and I can't remember what the kids call it either. I am so glad my son wasn't influenced by these older boys but I wish he would have spoken up and stopped his cousin from trying it. By the way they lost their priviledges to have their own fire and will just have to sit with the old folks.
I think it's called space monkey or space monkies.
Do a Google search for "The Choking Game" and I'm sure you'll find lots of info.
That's it thanks Trina and Colette. I tried the google search before posting here and couldn't find anthing on pinching neck, stop breathing etc., never thought of choking. It is the choking game and space monkey is the slang. I am sending the info to all my relatives whether they heard of it or not!!!
