Migraine medicine
All I can say is what a life saver it has been for me. I have a prescription for IMITREX. In 2 hrs or less my migraine will be gone. Before I use to panick when I felt one coming on, because the OTC stuff stopped working. I felt so helpless when I was in pain and still had to take care of Faith. Although there is some side effects with the IMITREX(I feel dizzy sometimes and sometimes nausea)but it outweighs the pain and throbbing of an all day and night headache. Sometimes though, I feel a headache coming on and its just a regular old headache that Motrin will cure. Because I do not get horrible migraines like some get, I dont always know when I am going to get them ahead of time. If I feel like Im getting a tension headache from stress and such, I take Motrin. If that doesnt help in an hour I try to evaulate the pain. They only give you 9 pills in a box, and I have a prescription for 2 more refills. Apparantly this is an expensive medicine. So I make sure it is a real migraine before taking. I am just so glad I finally went to the dr about this.
It's great to hear you found something that works for your migraines, Jackie. I think I posted on another thread about migraines (may have been yours ), I've been getting them again, and I mentioned it to my doctor last week and he gave me a prescription for Midrin. I took this back in the 70's for migraines. I had to use it last week, and it worked, but I couldn't sleep that night either. LOL When you take the Imitrex, do you take just one pill, or what? (trying to figure out just how long one Rx would last, I guess..........)
Yes, I just take one pill when I get a Migraine. It said if the pain lessons, but does not go completely away you can take another pill 2 hrs later(Only 2 pills in a 24 hr period). Ive only had to take one pill each time. With our co-pay I have to pay $30 for 9 pills, it is a 200$ drug without insurance. WOW, that is a lot of money for 9 pills. It is so well worth it. That is why I try to space on my pills to make sure I have a real migraine.
Karen, if you get Migraines very often, it may pay you to take a prescription that you take everyday that prevents them totally. That's what I take. I take it for migraines, but actually mostly for muscle spasms that come from signals in my brain (won't get into that!) and it has stopped both! They also will give you a script for the other type in case you get a break through migraine that you can take when you get it. So far, I haven't had to use mine. I've had NO migraines since being on this daily med for I think four or five months. Jackie, I'm so glad it's working for you! Yeah, I know what you mean about second guessing yourself. I am the exact same way. That's why I'm glad I take the everyday stuff now!
That's great, Jackie!!
