The sweetest thing
I got a package in the mail from my sister in AL and inside was a card addressed "To the family of *my grandmother's name*, c/o Mr and Mrs. BIL and Sister" and sent to my BIL's work address. He is the director of a well known nature/historical park in SE AL. I get it and it is a sympathy card for me and my family in response to my grandmother's death in November. Here's the clincher though...it's from my second grade teacher. I haven't seen her but once since I left that school in 3rd grade and that *once* was about 20 years ago. In the card she enclosed a copy of my grandmother's obituary with my name highlighted and a school photo of my from 1975. I was in 3rd grade that year and apparently I specially gave her a photo (since I had her for 2nd grade). The amazing thing is that (1)She remembered me, (2)She tracked me down via my BIL and sister, (3) That she had kept that 31 year old picture of me all of those years, and (4)She knew where the picture was. It was all too sweet and has put a smile on my face all evening. I feel very special today.
