A wonderful weekend

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive May 2006: A wonderful weekend
By Sandysmom on Sunday, May 14, 2006 - 06:21 pm:

This whole weekend has been a celebration for me. My younger brother got married yesterday evening, (I love evening weddings) at a very old mansion. They had the wedding outside in the courtyard and the reception inside. Dinner was crabcake and filet mignon. The building was magical, like a small castle. It even had a windmill. When the music started, little dd & I went up to dance and the girls on the dancefloor just loved her. For being only 1, she knows how to move. (lol) The weather was perfect. My older DD spent the evening exploring the "castle" with her cousins, climbing up one spiral staircase and down another. She had a blast. My youngest brother even brought a date with him and we absolutely adored her. His name is Daniel and hers is Danielle. They met at church. Hmmm, another wedding, maybe? I love weddings! They played a game on the dancefloor where all the married couples go up and they eliminate them by how many years they have been married. My grandparents were the last couple standing with 63 years of marriage. Later on, when the real dancing was going on, my grandmother got up there and shook it with everybody and it was so touching to watch her. She even danced with little dd. She has danced at all of our weddings. Because of a recent stroke, she probably will not remember much of yesterday, but big DD saw her ordering something at the open bar last night; an amaretto something. When she took a drink, she said, "Boy, this clears the soul." LOL DD had to laugh. My grandfather, a beautiful man with a beautiful soul just loved being with the family and just sat and talked with everyone and made sure we all got a kiss and hug and an "I Love You" He adores my grandmother, obviously since they've been married 63 years. My brother's friends were at the wedding that we have known since some of them were in kindergarten and cub scouts. It was so touching how they would just come up to me and give me a hug and kiss. Funny how we've all matured, even the boys. A new revelation about my husband; he knows that I get heated real easy and he did everything he could to make sure I was comfortable. He went over and above and I realize how very blessed I am to have him. It's so easy to become introverted when you are a SAHM. I am glad that God used this opportunity to show me how much He has blessed me.

This morning, my brother and new Sister-in-Law, had a Mother's Day brunch at their house,(the house I grew up in)and had the same Catering company cater this that did their wedding last night. A buffet was set up on their front porch and our eating area was under a large canopy on their front lawn. They wanted to say thank you to everyone. I was touched(but not surprised) at how thoughtful they are. When my grandparents got there, my grandmother, who must have remembered something of last night, did a little dance up the walkway. Right now, my DH is at the store buying me Fritos. Ahhh, how blessed am I? A wonderful weekend, a wonderful family, a wonderful life!! Happy Mother's Day everyone. :)

Wow sounds like a fabulous weekend! And your whole family sounds great! I am glad you had such a great time:) Your grandparents sound like darlings.
I have probably asked this before but what part of PA are your from? I am in NE PA, Pocono region.

Sherri, yet again, another recipe I'm sure we'll all want. LOL

Kernkate(Kathy), I live in the southeast part of PA in Chester County. I'm only a mile or two from the Maryland line. A couple years ago, my husband was offered a job at the Tobeyhanna Army Depot. We took a trip up there and the landscape was beautiful but I need to be a little closer to family. I also didn't like Tobeyhanna. What do you know about that area? We didn't have a lot of time to explore. The only reason I ask is because we were close to the Pocono area.

It's actually a shot.We put 1 shot of Amaretto and a shot of southern comfort.Be very careful with these, they catch up very quickly with ya LOL

I am about 40 minutes north of the Tobyhanna Army Depot. I am not really fimiliar with the town of Tobyhanna. I was only in Tobyhanna at the state park a few times and that was nice.
My SIL's boyfriend works at the Depot and loves it. They have a van that picks him up right here in our town and takes him to work. Their is alot of people that work at the depot from around here.
Are you anywhere near Shippensburg? My DS goes to college there. And he travels to Maryland to eat seafood. So I know he isn't to far from Maryland.

Shippensburg is approx 120 miles west of me. If you look at a PA map, I am at the very bottom right corner, close to Delaware and Maryland. I've been to Shippensburg, very nice. :) I grew up on Maryland seafood (grandparents live in Baltimore off the Chesapeake Bay) so I can see why he would go there. They have the best steamed hard crabs in the world. At least in my opinion. They have a seasoning they use called Old Bay and It is so good, I even use it on my popcorn and corn on the cob. Yum. Sorry for going on and on.

I see where you are at now. I love Shippensburg such a nice town. My Uncle comes in from Clinton MD and brings crabs everytime. They are great!
I have Old Bay seasoning we use it on the grill with our fresh trout and bull heads. Its is very good!
