Emotionally Draining Television
For the past three days, I've been glued to Court TV. Three years ago, here in Rhode Island, we had a terrible nightclub fire (The Station Fire) that killed 100 people, and injured many more grieviously. It was the fourth worst nightclub fire in the nation, and the worst in Rhode Island. The blaze was caused by pyrotechnics that were set off to introduce the band, Great White, on stage. Within 90 seconds, flammable foam soundproofing gave off fumes that overtook people. Those who tried to make it to the door were trampled to death. Many people are to blame, however, so far only the band manager has pled guilty and today was his sentencing. For two days, we have listened to victim impact statements from the family members of those who died. It was wrenching!!! Today, the defendant himself gave a VERY emotional apology. The whole thing is so SAD!!! Rhode Island is so small, everyone knew someone who was killed. My DD and her husband each lost a classmate from high school in the fire. They were all young people! My heart is so heavy tonight for all involved. www.courttv.com/news/biechele
I remember that. It got a lot of press here, due the the number of small music venues in and around New Orleans. Very sad, indeed.
I remember it too. This trial has been all over the news up here as well. I feel badly for the families on both sides of this. It's just a terrible tragedy.
That was very sad. I'm sure it's been hard.
