Does anyone have an awning over their patio?
Our deck is in bad shape and my DH wants to just get rid of the deck and do a patio with steps going down from the back door to the ground. I agreed to this but with the understanding that I want an awning, and not a flimsy one. My grandparents have a permanent aluminum awning on their back patio & it seems so much more durable that the retractable ones you see today. It's been there forever. Which do you like better, aluminum permanent or retractable? I can't even find aluminum awnings for patios on the internet, only over the window awnings, which are too small. Any suggestions? TIA
One thing to be careful for when you add an awning is to take in account the drainage! The previous owners added an awning here and it now backs up onto the porch each time it rains. We have spent quite a bit of money and labor trying to remedy this.
This may not be an option at all fo ryou, but have you considered a sunroom? I keep seeing them all over and when we were in England everyone had them. So nice!! I kind of want one now. lol I am not sure which would be better for you to be honest. I am not familiar with either and havent known anyon w/ one. So I am really no help!
Our house has one that is a heavy canvas that is not retractable...we would have to put it up every spring/summer and take it back down again in the fall (due to snow). We haven't had it up for the past few years just because we decided it was too much of a hassle to mess with it. When we did put it up it was nice to have it though.I am not a big fan of the aluminum awnings they just don't look right to me. I woudl like to extend the roof of our house over the patio so then our patio would be covered...does that make sense?
We have a Sunsetter Awning that is retractable. It goes up in less than a minute. We put it up when we are outside and take it down when we come in. It is very easy! Sunsetter is expensive but worth it.
Our old house had a deck and we put up a wood roof and shingled it.If it is on a right angle water can drain easily. We barbecued all winter long. The DD could also play on the deck all winter and on rainy days.
