Sent Scott off to the Middle East this morning!
We were so happy to have Scott come here for 4 days! He got to see Connor is Montessori school and they played A LOT! We did practically nothing, which was great. Family time was incredible. But both boys got a serious 24 hour bug so traveling to NC on the following Monday wasn't exactly the most fun. Thank God everyone was healthy in a few days though. We had an AWESOME week with Scott in North Carolina... Scott and Connor had fun playing at a local park, getting ice cream, playing peek-a-boo and chase, swimming, and fun with the grandparents as well. Scott and I even had a 3 hour date (gasp!) and had long chats over some good margaritas Sunday afternoon/evening while his mom watched Connor. This morning was our ending goodbye at Scott's barracks. We got a GREAT video of Connor and Scott right before we left. No one can throw that toddler in the air like dadda!! Then.... Lots of hugs, tears, and small jokes to ease the pain. It's going to be difficult on all of us, but our families and friends are what holds us together. It's TRULY a statement that we make with flooding gratitude. This goes for you ladies too!!! We finally made it back to Maryland safely...after 8.5 hours of travel time and D.C. traffic (why does ANYONE live or work there?) and a little scenic route looking for gas. Connor was VERY good in the car, happy with his DVD of teletubbies for the umpteenth time. Scott did call from Maine at around 8:45pm. They were refeuling and were getting ready to go to Shannon, Ireland. I hope they get a few good beers in before they refuel there. Then, it's Turkmenistan for 2 weeks of more training and then I think Bagram air base...then, Qalat. (Did you know that the nearest hotel is in Pakistan, over 484 miles away? LOL) Think Mud huts and sewage running down by the roads. Why don't they put a Hilton nearby? LOL Here is a map of Afganistan and you can zoom in to see where his city is. He's close to Kandahar. (148 miles away) Map You can also see the local weather there. (Not sure of the accuracy...if anyone can find a better site, let me know. It's 9:45pm and I need some food and zzzzzz....) Thanks for your support everyone...it's been, and will be, a long road. Love and God Bless our troops, Heidi PS- He will get a 2 week R&R after 6 months, so we are hoping for October to come very soon. :-)

THANKS SO MUCH!!! It's been hard today...I'm used to at least talking with him on the cell phone and I run like crazy to get to the phone now! Connor yelled "dadda?" and tried to find him again. But, we got some good videos to look at tonight. Thanks so much you guys... it's so hard not knowing...just plain not knowing how he's doing. It stinks to the nth degree!!
Hi there, I just wanted to let you know that I am with you, although my DH is not over there right now, there is a chance that he could go. We as military spouses must stick together and be shoulders to lean on for each other. I cried reading your post, as I know the feelings you are going through, the torment of those last few moments together seem horrible, as you don't want to say goodbye and you are trying to be strong since you know you must say goodbye. I will keep your family in my prayers, and know that you can always count on us military wives and the family that you have created here for support.
Good luck to all of you, Heidi. I know it's not easy. I have a co-worker, who's DH is in Kuwait. He was just home in March for his 2-week R&R. He is supposed to come home in August.
