Toothache!

Toothache!
I had a rough spot on one of my molars, and occasionally had a bit of tooth pain, so my dentist took x-rays, but didn't see anything like a crack (which I imagined it to be). Still, he said the filling was an old one, and recommended removing it and putting in a new one. I decided to be grown-up and brave (I HATE having dental work done), and did it last Wednesday. After the novacaine wore off, I've had bad pain in my tooth and cheek ever since (this is, what...the fourth day?). I called the dentist on Friday and they said oh, it's probably from the novacaine shot, and to take ibuprofen. So, I've been taking Motrin every four to five hours, because it hurts so much! I suppose I need to call the dentist again, but what will he have to do now, I wonder? Major surgery? Oh, I wish, wish, wish I'd left well enough alone!! (whine whine)
You better get it checked. It may have had a small abcess that was draining and the new filling could have closed it up. This happened to my dd and she was in agony. You should not be in pain from a filling done last Wednesday.
Sounds like it could be an abscess. Definitely call the dentist. Could be that a course of antibiotics will clear it up. I've had this happen to 2 different teeth in the last two years. Don't put it off. One of them was so bad I ended up with a root canal that went wrong and did lose the tooth. Call today!!!!!!!!!!
Ditto, I lost a couple teeth to abcessed fillings when I was a kid, CALL TODAY!!!
Ditto-the pain wont go away
Ditto again, on calling the dentist.
I called...I get to go in today at 4..I am so nervous, but I can't handle this. I'll let you know what happens...
Janet, how did you do at the dentist this afternoon? Hope your feeling better!
Bump!!
Well, x-rays showed nothing, and the dentist ruled out any abcess or like that. I don't think he has a clue why I'm having pain. He found a place where the filling was "raised" and maybe putting pressure on the new filling, so he filed it down. He said it should help in a few days, but if I'm not feeling better by Thursday, to call him. He said if there's still pain, he must be missing something, and he'd refer me to an oral surgeon, but he said he can't imagine it would be a nerve problem, as the filling was so shallow. *sigh* All I know is, today I can't tell any difference in the degree of pain. I'm living from Motrin to Motrin, and am so grumpy! I'm also supposed to drive to Kansas next week to visit my family...
Janet, please get a second opinion. I've had a lot of really bad dentistry, and it's cost me thousands of dollars and tons of pain later on. This dentist does NOT sound like he really knows what he's doing, and taking Motrin like that is not good for you. ((((Janet)))) Please let us know how you are doing. BTW, where in KS?? I'm in NE Kansas at Ft. Riley. I hope the nice warm weather we're having sticks around through next week for ya!
Absolutely go get a second opinion. You should not still be in pain.
Crystal, I lived in Wichita. I've been to Ft. Riley once, in college, when I went with a friend to visit her MP boyfriend. We took a bus, and when we got off with our backpacks, we were actually stopped by a policeman who thought we were vagrants! I was so naive at the time, I had no idea why he was questioning us. I also had my first motorcycle ride to Milford Lake that weekend (my dad would've had a cow if he'd known)! As for the tooth, I think I'm feeling somewhat better tonight (hope, hope). I'm going to give it another day and see. Thanks for everyone's concern.
LOL, that's quite a drive, I know a couple people who live in Milford, I don't know how they can stand to drive all the way to Riley every morning!!! Anyway, glad you're feeling better, I hope it continues to improve!!
WOO HOO! When I woke up this morning, I had practically no pain in my tooth!!! Yay!!
Yay!!!
