Smelly urine - Way TMI
The last 2 times I've urinated today I noticed a strong, distinct, odor that I've never smelled anywhere. Like I noticed the smell right away. I also noticed that I feel really empty after I urinate. The urine is mostly clear. It always is because I drink so much water. I've only had a UTI maybe 5x my whole life, and 3 of those were during pregnancy. I know this is gross, but any ideas on what's going on? I've never had this problem during a UTI or felt so "empty" after urination. TIA and sorry it's gross!!
Have you eaten asparagus lately?
No. Nothing even different that I can think of. I didn't even think of foods causing it, but no, nothing different.
Vitamins??
Yes Crystal.....I actually started back on a women's vitamin about a week or two ago. Maybe 10 days ago. Ya think???? It's like I feel so empty that it almost aches in my lower belly.
Vitamins can definately cause an odor in urine. It always does mine.
Really??!! I did not know that. I've taken them before, but it was probably a year or so ago and I got out of the habit. I started them back up again a week or so ago. I never noticed anything before, but maybe my body is different now. Thanks for letting me know that because I would have never even thought to consider it being the vitamins.
I was going to say vitamins too. The reason for the smell, as I understand it, is b/c the vitamins are acutally helping, not hurting. Don't go off them just b/c of the strong urine smell. Your kidneys are the filters for your urine, and the vitamins are simply helping your kidneys do a better job of cleaning out the impurities from your system and excreting them through your urine. So the smell is actually from all the impurities in your urine, which are leaving your body. And it may have something to do with your diet as well.
That is very common, vitamins can change the color and smell of your urine, since not al of the vitamin is absorbed (it's more difficult for your body to absorb than vitamins from food). Also, if you are taking a vitamin, AND getting enough of a certain vitamin or mineral from your diet, you are basically flushing out the extra. Just drink lots of water, and if you are uncomfortable, call your doc, see if they can recommend a different vitamin.
Thanks a lot girls!! I really appreciate knowing that. I won't go off my vitamins, I was just afraid something else might be wrong. It's me...Deanna (reds9298). I went Anon because I didn't want anyone to think I'm gross!!LOL You guys (as always) are a big help. Thanks again!
