Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Thanksgiving

What are people doing for Thanksgiving? Its harder since my mom is in a nursing home but I still like to get as much family together as possible. Everyone likes old favorites for food. Anyone doing anything new. Breaking the mold????? We have spent part of the day serving a homeless dinner. Of course we're the blessed to have such a privilege.

Dh will be working that day, so we are finally going to celebrate Thanksgiving with the Persian side of the family. Dh will call when he's about done, we'll go to his workplace, and then head on over to the celebration. I don't know what to expect for the cuisine. Should be interesting. Dh wants me to make something to take, I don't want to make the particular dish he wants me to make. Come to think of it, I don't want to cook anything! lol

As far as charitable contributions, the boys and I always go shopping for Thanksgiving dinner. We buy enough groceries for two families and donate them to our church, who then delivers the food to the needy.

The night before Thanksgiving, we have Top Ramen noodles for dinner. That's to remind us that there are people who are less fortunate.

What a beautiful message for your children on sharing and gratitude. I'm definitely inspired.

Sounds like your husband is really proud of your special dish! That's so sweet.

At different times during past Thanksgivings we have had a gratitude gathering on a separate day (like the Friday after Thanksgiving) with friends. Haven't done that since we lived here in the North COuntry. Maybe this year's a good time to start.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
