Free Green onions o scallions

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Free Green onions o scallions

I heard this tip on the Food Network - next star.

Put green onions in fresh water and they will keep growing for you. Just snip off the tops when you want it.

I wonder if there is anything else you can do that with?

Here is how to do it.

Thanks, Feona! This is something I'm definitely going to try.

Just for eatting. Not for looking at.

Love this recycling the green onions. My chives in the ground kind of act like this - you just keep snipping them. In fact every herb I'm growing is responding to being snipped or torn or separated and split with someone else.

Chives have to be in dirt though right?

I must confess I am using the automatic sprouter for the bamboo shoots.

It bubbles the water and keeps the bamboo shoots happy.

Yes, chives have to be in dirt or a hydroponic system. What are you doing with the bamboo shoots, is it instead of changing the water?

By Feonad on Friday, July 17, 2009 - 07:41 am:

Nothing. The bamboo just grows. But mine grow slowly. I tried cutting one and it didn't grow roots.
