Are you doing anything for Earth Day. No one has ever lived at a time when there is more of a reason to be concerned about mother earth. Our youngest's entire school is going to the park - doing a combined kite flying and clean-up day. Its a great day every year! Kind of like a second field day but with an enviornmental twist. There are tons of good ideas on line for this day. These are from edhelper.com (Caring for Earth and Earth Day Theme - puzzles, science themes etc.): http://edhelper.com/caring_for_earth.htm?gclid=CP2YhtHl_5kCFQOeFQod3S2MGA
I'm not sure what we're doing for Earth Day. We have a busy week this week. (Dino reports and presentations, field trip tomorrow, birthday party Thursday, birthday party Friday, regular school work, etc.) I'm exhausted! I'm thinking we can go in and recycle the bottles and cans we've been collecting. Kite flying sounds good if we can get some breeze. Have you heard of the Disney movie out for Earth Day?
I'm glad you reminded me. I asked the Disney expert (my youngest) and he said its called "Earth". Here's the link (beautiful trailer): http://disney.go.com/disneynature/ (Click on the Earth Movie)
Still haven't seen the Earth movie. Loved the kite celebration of all the children from my sons school in the park. Did anyone notice that Walmart had great Earth-centered organic T-shirts for great prices. They are very cute and organic. This is the time of year I'm thinking forward to camp clothes and these were great. Walmart goes organic who would believe.
Unfortunately we DID not do anything for Earth Day as a family, the schools cannot take any field trips (even to a park) for lack of funds .... I did however, talk about Earth Day with my brownies, and this Thursday we are continuing by cleaning up the "paper product" trash outside our meeting area (the local library) it'll serve as a hands-on learning experience about keeping our natural resources clean as well as reinforce a sense of pride and thankfullness in being able to meet at the library (not all troops in our area are as fortunate as we are in even having a meeting place !) We were going to last week, BUT I decided I needed to check with moms before we did that. It won't be near dark, but I tend to get yelled at or "spoken to severely" by parents, so I wanted to make sure I had everyone's complete permission before I did this. ~h
harlena, Love all the things you do with your brownies. Our school is fundless also but everyone volunteers so we had 3-4 parents for each clas and we walked to the park (no bus). Our earth day outing was great fun on a summeresque day with a bright blue sky but over 90 degrees in the shade. It was a beautiful with 100 kites in the air and laughing children
