Putting photos on disk
Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Putting photos on disk
I have what is probably a silly question...but I will ask anyway. LOL I have always just taken my memory card into WalMart or something to print photos. I want to also start burning some onto disks on my computer. My question is this... if I burn a few on to a disk, is that disk then done or can you add some at a later date? Does it know not to cover the ones that are on there and automatically move to the next open spot? Or do you have to wait until you have enough room to fill the disk to burn one?
You can only use a disc once, unless you use a RW disc. Yes, it knows not to write over the other files, or it will ask you, at least. I burn all of my pics to cd at the end of each month. If I use cd's, I need more than one. If I use dvd's, I use very little of the allotted space. Still, I take so many pics that I need to clear the card often.
I always use RW's for pictures. You can continue to add to them until they are full. ALL of our photos/digital videos are on disc. I bet we have 60 of them in a tote. It will not 'go over' anything. If there's not room on the disc, it will tell you that. I usually fill 2 cd's at a time, but occasionally there's room left. I just note it on the case, then add to it later when I'm ready. Basically you can burn on it anytime you want. If there's not enough room for the files you're wanting to burn, it will let you know. CD-R's are not rewriteable. They are for music. Once burned, they're done and can't be added to.
Very good! Thanks so much for the info! About how many pictures fit on a disk?
And, as I just found out this morning - putting photos on a CD for the first time - if you don't buy pre-formatted disks, you have to format the disk first. In My Computer, with the disk in your CD drive, right-click on the disk drive and follow the menu. As to how many photos, I don't know the limit, but a disk my son gave me had 97 photos on it.
The number of photos depends on the size of each photo. The CD has a certain amount of mb's, and you can put the equal size amount of photos on it.
I've never had to format a disk, so I'm not sure about that. I just buy CD-RW's, a huge pack of them. Ditto Marcia. I get tons of photos on a CD, but if I'm adding video as well, then that obviously takes a lot more space. Sometimes I make a CD just for videos that month, and one for photos that month.
