Homemade Christmas Gifts
Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Homemade Christmas Gifts
Is anyone giving homemade Christmas gifts this year? If so, what? The only thing close to homemade that we are doing (not even sure if you'd consider it homemade), we are giving digital photo frames to the parents - we are putting photos on them so they are ready to go.
Yes! I'm currently making a scarf for someone. I'm also going to help the children with a couple of crafty things for their grandparents. I'll be cross stitching a small picture as a stocking stuffer for my two boys and my sil. The designs are quite small so they should only take a day each. And I also will be baking brownies for my dh's co-workers and their families. That's about it.
We're giving homemade baked goods to teachers (pumpkin bread and cookies), with handmade cards and decorated tins. (I'm a papercrafter.) That's it though. I sometimes do a cross stitch picture for someone, but this year it just didn't work out with the move and all the changes.
YES! I made necklaces, earrings, bracelets, wine bottle stoppers, cheese trays, ornaments, etc. For the people that my glass items did not work for, I traded my glass items for gifts. My gifts are 90% homemade this year. The remaining 10% is toys for my kids. My trades included: purses, rag dolls, quilts, tablerunners, gift baskets of fudge, gloves, scarves, etc. I think it is one of the best years ever. At first I was depressed about getting gifts this year. Once I decided to make them or trade/barter for them it really became a lot of fun.
I'm hoping to make a couple for friends back in KS, because I spent about an hour collecting shells on the last viable beach day we had recently. So, I want to send a little bit of the beach to them.
Yes, I am making a quilting bag, patchwork scarf, etc. for my friends and a small quilt for my Dad's sofa. The quilt for my Dad was supposed to have been done before he got back from the hospital but it is still on a way.
I made my dk's each a lounge set. I'm also considering doing a scrapbook-y type thing to hold some various gift cards for my inlaws. (thanks for the suggestion over on my other post!)
We've decided not to do baked goods. I'm making coaster sets instead! I haven't done those in so long I actually forgot about them. I can't wait to get started!
I'm making a quilt for DH, painting a room in their new house for my parents, writing in a sister's journal for my sister, and doing DH (a photographer) is doing photographs for all family. We are trying to make about 80% of the gifts.
Err, umm...DH is doing photographs. Not that I am doing DH...well, maybe for part of his Christmas present
Hey Pamt! Please let me see what you have made for your DH when is done. I am a beginner quilter who is always wanting to learn from everyone who quilts.
lol Pam!
ROFL Pam!!!
I thought it (re: "doing dh"), but I just wasn't gonna go there.
I have always enjoyed giving/getting gifts in a jar. They are very easy to make & there are tons of ideas on the internet. My favorite is hot cocoa. Kids really enjoy doing it too!
I filled a small photo album for DH's grandmother who is 94. I'm baking chocolate chip cookies and making spiced pecans for neighbors, teachers, friends. I got nice boxes for the baked goods at WalMart - Martha Stewart collection. I made a couple of necklace/bracelet sets for young nieces.
LOL, Pam! Tee hee... I think I'm going to do a Christmas music CD and some baked cookies for neighbors and friends. We've all decided not to get the adults in the family anything, except I'll do the traditional calendar with Connor pictures for them. We're going to spoil the kids and do more for neighbors and friends who might be in more need, if that makes sense? I have a kid I'm tutoring whose mother is a single mom and is going through a hard time. I think I'll donate something special anonymously and add in an extra hour of tutoring.
