Ablation
Has anyone here had a uterine ablation done? I just had an appt with my gyn and she thinks this might be the right thing for me. I am just wondering what the procedure is like. Is it painful? How is the recovery and stuff like that. Also, did it fix you problems? Mine is due to extremely heavy bleeding and length of period and also frequency. TMI I know.. sorry. She told me that a partial hyst is also an option but I don't think I want to go that route unless it is absolutely necessary. Any BTDT would be very appreciated.
I know one person who had that some years ago. I don't remember the specifics of her recovery but I think she was crampy/had pain for a couple of days, and pretty much healed without any problems. However, it didn't correct the problems she was having, in the long term. She ended up having a hysterectomy a few years later due to the same things you listed above plus endometriosis and fibroids. I'd definitely research it and hopefully others here have some experience or knowledge they can pass on to you. How are you doing since your neck surgery?
after my neck surgery I am pretty much recovered 100%. I still have restrictions on how much weight I can carry for any length of time but hopefully that will be lifted tomorrow when I go in for my 6 month check up.. How are you after your latest surgery?
Tara, I have two friends who have had this done. I would say that yes it is painful. Not horrible, but not a walk in the park. For both of them it took about a week to feel pretty normal. They did "leak" for sometime afterwards (i don't know how long). Both have just just loved it. One had been 5 years, she is starting to have cycles again. The other ended up going through menopause about 4 months after so she is done. They both highly reccommend the procedure. I too have looked into, but had a "wash" done and so far things are good.
I was scheduled for an exam and consult to see if I was a candidate for ablation, but ended up in the hospital due to hemorraghing. After a D&C it was discovered I had adenomyosis (basically endometriosis inside the uterus), which means an ablation wouldn't have been an option for me anyway. I had a hysterectomy and now life is GOOD! I know of women who have had ablations with good results, but depending on what the issues are, it's not an option for everyone.
Tara, I am OK this week. I had hand surgery on the 14th, not totally healed, but doing much better now. Was taken to the ER last week because of my back - made the hand seem like it was nothing. Doing a lot better now, taking it day by day. Glad you had such good results with your neck surgery! Gives me hope! LOL
