A new laptop....technically challenged, wireless??
We ordered a new laptop. It will actually be our first laptop. We currently have a regular PC, and DSL internet. We hook into a modem box and into a phone jack. We want to have wireless internet for the laptop. I keep searching different sites like earthlink, comcast, etc. trying to find out more about wireless internet and I'm not finding anything. Do you have wireless? Do you like it? Can you use your laptop online anywhere in the house with no cords/cables for internet? Is it unlimited use? I really have no idea about any of this. Just trying to figure out where to start. Any info will be appreciated
We have wireless and yes, you can use your laptop anywhere in the house, or even outside, the only time you need a cord is when the battery is running low.
Our router is in the basement, so maybe not the best spot. The wireless signal isn't all that great for the laptop. Emily's computer is hooked up with wireless, though and most of the time it works fine. Occasionally she will lose her signal, but usually not for too long. Since DH works for the newspaper, he likes taking the laptop with him and going to coffee shops to send pictures to the office, without having to go to the office.
Who do you guys get your service from?
comcast - package deal, cable, internet and phone.
Cox-package, cable/internet/phone we have a wireless router and all of our computers (3) access via the wireless router. you have to have a wireless router if you want to use wireless access.
Charter Internet and TV Wireless router (with plug-ins for computers which ARE wired) Cable modem All desktop computers have ethernet NIC cards (3), except Emily's which is wireless(1).
We have DSL, and we have wireless. All you have to do is buy a wireless router and you can use your laptop. Once you buy a router, it will have instructions on how to get everything set up. You don't have to do anything different with your service. We have our router in our study, and we can use the laptop in any room of our house, and outside. Oh, you can buy a wireless router at places like Best Buy, Circuit City, Radio Shack, etc.
Oh wow, I didn't know about the wireless router thing. That is pretty interesting. Thanks for the information.
