Housewarming party

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive October 2008: Housewarming party
By Paulas on Sunday, October 12, 2008 - 11:23 am:

People at work are asking when we are having our housewarming party. I've never hosted one nor have I gone to one. What do I do to prepare for a housewarming party?

By Kate on Sunday, October 12, 2008 - 03:39 pm:

Do you want to have one? I wouldn't do it unless you really want to! The people at work may simply be curious about your house...

If you decide to do one, I believe you just invite people over, have the house spotless because they will wander all over it, and serve finger foods. People will likely bring gifts--plants, gift cards to home improvement stores or linens stores, wine, decorative items, etc.

Yep, they are pretty much what Kate said. You clean like nuts because people look every where and have food and drinks for them. Most people around here that have them do more of open houses. Invite for a certain day, but say come anytime between bank and blank.

Kate, it doesn't really matter to me. I like the people I work with so I don't mind having them over for a few hours. I have a small staff so I was thinking of doing it on Friday night.

I also work with very health conscious people so I'm thinking mostly healthy stuff like cheese/crackers, veggies, fruit and maybe a few dessert type things.

Is there music at a housewarming? I don't have any music.

I didn't have one but I have been to several. It is also a great way to meet your neighbors. When I entertain people, many people and it's not a sit down dinner this is what I do.

You could have finger foods and hot dishes set up on your kitchen or dining room table.

Then have different "stations" like a soda/ice water one, cocktails/wine and then a coffee station. Your guests can help themselves. Make sure to have all serving, eating utensils, plates and cups at each location.

You'll be busy meeting/greeting everyone and showing off your new home.

Or you could only serve desserts, coffee, etc. It depends on the time you want to have it. It's like Vicki stated it's usually between a set amount of time ie: 2-4, 1-3...

Let us know what you decide to do! :)

You posted while I was thinking...lol
I have only gone to afternoon Open Houses but some of my ideas might still work for you. It depends on how many people you invite.
