Frost
We had our first frost last night. I have some flowers, that are only now finally about to bloom, plus the zinnias didn't bloom until September. I'm not quite ready for fall and winter to claim these flowers yet, especially since the whole next week is still supposed to be nice, with temps in the 60's. So, Emily and I covered up the things we didn't want to die, last night. We did indeed have a little frost. I saw it in the backyard. So, fall is definitely here. The nights, over the next week or so, aren't supposed to be anywhere near the freezing mark, so we don't have to keep covering stuff, every night. We live close to Lake Michigan, so I'm sure the frost was worse, farther away from the lake. The big lake keeps us a little bit warmer than the more-inland communities.
I was just thinking this has got to be Dawn's post, it is too soon for all of this!
I'm envious! LOL
I am certainly NOT envious.. I hate frost, I hate winter I hate cold weather Sorry, had to get that out.. I lived in the Chicago area for 29 yrs and Ive seen enough of winters to last me a lifetime.
38 this morning, so not quite so cold. I like my four seasons.
I'm with Jackie... Boston for over 40 years and I feel like I'm done! Funny, I just said to someone the other day, I want to move to Arizona, or at least retire there, but the thought of not smelling that ocean smell is awful! I LOVE that smell and I love looking at the ocean and being near it! Could I give it up for the desert if it means not having to deal with all the darn snow and ice??? I think it might!
Angela-Ive always said I wanted to move south too, and have no more cold winters. We have been in Va Beach for the last 15 years. Although it does get cold here, and occasionally we have some snow flurries...it NEVER gets as cold as Chicago. You could always move down south to Florida, and then you would still be close to the ocean LOL
Angela, I could never give up that ocean smell. It is my favorite. I wish it would snow the week of Christmas (after shopping is all done) and then melt and go right into spring.
I'd rather have a snowstorm, than a hurricane! No Arizona for me. It's too hot in the summer and I'd miss my big lake! Living in central WI for 10 years, I really missed my lake.
Yeah... see... that smell! Once it gets in you, you just can't live without it! No, Jackie... Florida won't do! Too humid and big bugs! I don't mind snakes. Desert! Here I come! LOL
Jackie, you made me laugh with wanting to move south to get out of the cold weather in VA Beach! One year we visited Bea in March. Everyone there had warm clothing on, and my girls were swimming in the James River. LOL It's all relative. It's just hovering about the freezing mark right now, and my 15 year old decided it would finally be ok to wear her fall jacket instead of a sweater. I will still have my crocs on. LOL I'm happy to see that it's going to warm up for the rest of the week, because I am so not ready for winter.
Marcia-seems we are never happy where we are LOL Like I said the winters are warmer here then in Chicago, yet we still get freezing temperatures in the winter. I think what I hate the most is, that it gets cold in the winter, and the sun goes down soooooo early..makes it feel like winter lasts twice as long.
You guys can keep the cold weather...Sure we have hurricane here in Fl but come Dec/Jan/Feb Im still wearing my shorts and my crocs!!! Do get a few weird looks from the SNOWBIRDS when DSH and I go to the store in shorts...Would'nt trade here for the world... You know we all like to complain about the weather at one time or another but we still live where do.I like it warm in the winter... some like it cold!!! We have lived in the cold before.
I'm with Cathy. Even though it is unbearably hot in the summer months, I love my shorts and flip flops. My sister and bil may come for XMas but my kids want to go to Boston so we can go skiing and play in the snow. They saw snow once in 1996. Of course they do not remember it because they were so young. Oh, we went to Mobile, AL one New Year's Eve. The football stadium trucked in snow for the kids. They barely remember that, too.
It was plenty warm this morning. I was taking out the garbage without a jacket on. I'm glad we covered the flowers, for that one cold night. I can't imagine not ever seeing snow! There are times when I think I'd be ready to ship it down to Texas, or wherever!
