Photoshop/Elements

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2008: Photoshop/Elements

I have both Photoshop and Photoshop Elements, and I can't wrap my mind around either one of them. What does everyone else use? Should I just take a course? They offer a course on Elements at Henry's, the store where I bought my camera.
Thoughts?

You have BOTH? That's a redundant load of software unless your version of Photoshop is really old.

Elements retails for about $100, the complete Photoshop sells for about $500. There's not much need for it unless you're in the business of photo editing or graphic composition.

So what is it that you need to do? Do you just want to organize and view images, or do you want to edit them?

I bought Elements on sale a few months ago, and loaded it. My BIL had a copy of Photoshop that he gave me. He felt it was much better. I can't seem to figure it out.

I'm an amateur photographer, and have been doing family photo shoots for about a year. I have been using basic editing tools, but would like to have a lot more fun with my editing.

I have both as well. Elements came with a camera several years back, and I bought CS2. Elements doesn't have a lot of the features that the full versions of P'shop have, but if you only want to do *basic* things, Elements should be fine.

That said, they are both somewhat complicated when you go beyond the most basic functions, I haven't mastered either.

I would say if you can go to a class on elements, then go. If you get to where that isn't enough then move up to a photoshop class. But there really isn't any better way to learn than to take a class.
