Learning Styles - 2 surveys
DVC Learning Styles LEarning Styles Scales In Emily's botany class, the teacher wanted them to do both surveys and print out the results. Emily, Gary and I are all visual learners. I knew that, about myself, even before using the tools. I remember something far more easily if I've seen it, than if I've only heard it. Since Gary's a photographer, it really didn't surprise me that he came out visual, too.
I haven't taken the surveys yet but I am a visual learner also. If my kids need help with homework I have to read or look at the problem myself. My dd had to do a science fair project a few years back and this was her topic. She surveyed the neighborhood kids.
That's cool Annie. Were the kids different, in her little survey group?
Yes, Dawn they were different. She surveyed about 15 kids from the ages of 6 to 16. She had the same age groups use the same materials. Some kids answered the same on both surveys. It was very interesting. Not as scientific as your dd's surveys, I'm sure, but interesting. I'm about to take Emily's surveys. I'll let you know my results.
I took the first survey. I learn from both visual and audio techniques equally. I can say that if I listen to a lecture and the speaker is interesting, then I will take notes of key words/phrases. If the person is boring me then I will doodle. I also like to read articles/books from paper then on the internet. I also have to have things written down, like directions, schedules, etc because my mind is everywhere with dates, times, addresses, etc. I have a hard time remembering people's names, until I see them in print but I can remember all of my high school friends' old telephone numbers and birthdays, without a problem. MMMMmm what would Emily say about me? I need all of the available learning skills I can get? LOL
I took both tests. I thought they were very interesting. I am a visual learner, something I had a sense of already. I am also a global and intuitive learner (second test). I'll have to let dh take them. My feeling is that he will be the complete opposite. He's a math person, very specific and detailed while I'm much more of a "bigger picture" person, always rounding numbers, time, etc. I like theory and he likes facts. In college he helped me with math classes and I helped him with paper writing, giving speeches, art history, classes like that.
Interesting results. One of the questions on one of the tests was remembering a phone number the way you'd heard it. I've watched WAY too much Zoom, as a kid and with my kids. I cannot say the zipcode for Boston, without singing, O-2-1-3-4!, like they do on the show.
First one was: The Tactile/ Kinesthetic Learning Style, which is not surprising to me, I'm a hands-on learner. The second one was fairly even... I don't know what that means. Act 3, Int 3, Verb 1, Seq 3. Between 1 and 3 means well-balanced between the two dimensions. So, slightly active, slightly intuitive, even less slightly verbal, and slightly sequential, but fairly even across the board. Interesting results!!!
Dawn, too funny about the Zoom reference. Zoom Box 350 Boston , Mass 02134 Send it to Zoom!
I know. My kids and I could all sing that little ditty. Although, what changed between Zoom in the 70's to Zoom now, is that email was added! LOL! I don't think it's on anymore, though.
