IKE update

Well Houston and surrounding areas have cancelled school on Friday. No evacuations have been called except for coastline. So not sure what we are doing, but I may go on vacation :)

It appears right now that the landfall is about 100 miles west of galveston, but they have seen some models showing an eastern movement, so they decided to be proactive.

Christy, did you find your zip code map and figure out which zone you are in?

By Dramamamma on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 - 02:54 pm:

No I haven't heard anything about Humble. Where can I find this zip code map? I usually use abc13.com but not finding out a whole lot from them.

Go to khou.com. My zip got called this morning. So we are in the mad evacutation zone.

we actually left last night about 9 pm and got to our destination at about 2 am. We are at my dad's and safe. Wonder what might be left of the house when we get home!

Many hopes and prayers that you guys will return to your homes safely and that they will be untouched. I KNOW how stressful this is! Kaye, it's best to leave early. We actually left before our mandatory evacuation was called, and didn't encounter the horrific traffic.

{{{{{Kim}}}}} Lots of prayers for your area, and anyone else's that's being affected.

We actually just feel very fortunate. We have a place to stay (with my dad). Everything that matters is with me and I don't have to spend an arm and a leg.

Really I could use a new roof, some new windows and some flooring. So as long as i can live in the house while we are fixing stuff, it would be okay! I guess that is how you have to look at it or you go crazy..right karen!

And as you know, the worse thing is the damage, but a second close is the uncertainty of what next. When can we go home, what will need done, etc. Also just trying to keep in touch with people so we all know we are safe.

We are here and I THINK we are okay and out far enough to where we'll be okay. I'm pretty sure school will be cancelled tomorrow and I'm about to head to walmart just as soon as my ex calls me about my check.

I was up at the school this morning and was talking to some parents and they said it usually doens't flood around here but we do have to be careful of tornados. I don't know what has me more scared now, flooding or tornados. I'm really on edge now over all of this. It seems that it went from "getting SOME of the hurricane" to now directly in it's path.

I'm glad you got out of town Kaye, they called mandatory evacuation in LaPorte which is where I USED to live a month ago.

Interesting/scary article on Ike HERE and another related article HERE...

LOl thanks karen...:) that is the site we read too.

Just for perspective for non coast livers. I live 35-40 miles from the beach. But along the gulf, waters come into those cute little lakes, but it isn't really what we consider "waterfront". To actually "see" water, i would have to drive 10-15 minutes. In between me and that water are just masterplanned subdivision after subdivision. There is very little undeveloped land within a 20 mile radius.

All that being said, the maps we have seen (via the oil companies), 21.6 feet of storm surge will put several feet of water in my house!

could be great fun..NOT...but it could still miss us some. I think the evacuations are going better this time though. The trip home will be a bear though!

We've been having tropical storm type weather off and on all day, and we're under a tropical storm warning. I never even gave this one a 2nd thought after yesterday morning. DUH ME! On the news just now, I saw footage of Plaquemines Parish and along the Industrial Canal in New Orleans where water from surge is up to mailboxes or higher. And we are not even in the path of the darn thing!
