Karen do you have an updated path for Ike?
I can't seem to find one this am. Ds is asleep in my room so I do not want to turn on tv. Thanks
Weather Underground 5-day forecast
Here's what they are saying this morning: And the model:
Thanks, Dawn. I'm worried about the pink one but I know many MV moms are concerned about the other threads.
Thanks, Karen. What a pain in the butt these storms are by living in the south. I know we are complaining now but in the winter we will hear from Dawn and other MV members about horrible snow and ice storms; while we can sit back and enjoy 70 degree afternoons ;)
Yeap! It will get cold and it will snow! Although, I think I appreciate winter, more, after a hot, hot summer and we barely had a warm summer this year. There were lots of stretches where we didn't have the AC on at all. If you like to swim, it wasn't a good summer for that!
So true! As much as I hate dealing with hurricanes, I think I'd like driving in snow and ice even less. I need something in between..........LOL 11 AM track: Don't get me wrong, I am not wishing this on TX, but if I had a choice, it would go there and not here, or FL..........
My parents were suppose to leave central Texas today and head to Florida to see my grandparents. Needless to say, they have postponed their trip. They are waiting to see where Ike goes, before they start the long drive. I sure hope everyone doesn't have to evacuate again!
LOL Karen....wish for south texas okay?
Thanks for the update, Karen. Dawn, you always crack me up.
Kaye - DONE! LOL I said I don't *really* wish for TX - I know we have some moms there, and I have other friends and their families there too...... Actually south TX would be THE best scenario for all of us............ HOWEVER - as of 5 AM, that isn't the projection: Models: and...8 AM from NHC......
Personally......I like that white line the best........
Is Ike a bigger storm than Gustav? After I take Emily to school, I'll have to look into it. Both times that I turned on the weather channel yesterday, they were having a feature show and not the endless weather stuff, so I didn't find out much. It looks like it's going to hit a bigger area of Gulf states, than Gustav did. Feels like fall around here today. It's cloudy, but we aren't supposed to get too much rain. Temps are in the 50's and only supposed to get into the 60's.
No, not South Texas! Dh's parents and brother live there!
Debbie, where does your brother live? LOL..mine is in corpus, actually pretty close to the ocean, so my hope is for self preservation! However, the last three have been real stressors here in houston, I think most people won't evac and big issues could be had. It is a lot easier to evac the smaller towns though.
Dawn, I honestly don't know.....and at this point, anything can change......it has made landfall on the eastern tip of Cuba, going across Cuba will weaken it, but open waters again will allow it to strengthen....Let's all just hope that its path will take it inland enough over Cuba to significantly weaken it (or - wishful thinking - tear it apart!). Debbie - sorry - didn't mean to wish it on your relatives!
Kaye, dh's parents live in Kingsville(right next to Corpus) and his brother lives in Corpus. They actually live right by the water. LOL, Karen. It is okay. I really just wish it would go away!
You and me BOTH!
It's just a waiting game now. They talked about people evacuating the east side of Cuba, but Cuba is an island and there really is just so far you can go, and isn't the hurricane going to hit the whole island? Or is just safer being inland, than by the shore?
It's already hit the east side of Cuba.
It's already hit the east side of Cuba.
They have called for evac in Galveston on Wednesday unless something changes. That doesn't match up with the maps I have seen, but I guess they know more than me. Crazy! My dad is supposed to be flying in on Sat, my youngest is getting Baptised on Sunday. I could really do without the stress!
Here is the 2 o'clock track:
It is projected to shift a bit south.....I just read that evacs for the FL Keys have been cancelled......This is crazy, the reality is, *no one* knows where this thing will go until it's in the Gulf.......... I HATE hurricane season!
That isn't looking to good for us... of course it's still early.
Kaye -- where did you hear about the evac of Galveston?
Christy from my hubby, he works on the ship channel and gets some direct info. Although some of it is speculative info. I think what he meant to say is they were going to make a call on wed to evac, which means gal would head out on thursday, we would follow on friday. Did you get your flyer from the city? We are in area b, which means we mand. leave with a cat 3. My hubby will have to work he found out today, so he told me, be prepared to leave thursday pm, as soon as we get the word about school cancelations to just go. Good times huh?
Looking like it's going more *southerly*....
And since I am geographically and directionally challenged - who will this affect?????
I didn't get anything, we are further out now so I'm not sure how it will affect us if it heads our way. I'm in off the beltway between 10 and 59 now so wonder how we will get affected?
Christy I don't think you are in an evac zone. Really if you are north of the south loop (lol...sounds confusing but you know), you will have wind and rain, but not likely flooding. Karen you map right now shows it at matagorda bay. Tx geog lesson, the first inlet of water, is houston, then next is matagorda bay, then rockport, the corpus christi. The rest I don't know...LOL. Corpus is the only city really, but just inside of matagorda and rockport lies victoria, but I am not sure how storm surge will affect them. I assume that corpus is close to 100k, victoria smaller, houston is at 4 million. Crazy crazy. I am glad it seems more south than me.
10:00 news tonight shows even more south so looks like we'll be okay. I was pretty sure being out here we'd be okay, just the rain and wind but I don't think flooding would be an issue like it used to be for us.
Good news for *us* - not-so-good for others:
Karen it does look like la is going to be in the clear. Our weather guy explained that there is a high keeping it south and there were some concerns the high wouldn't be strong enough. We are still not in the clear, but it is looking better for us.
Latest paths - looks like I'm in the clear, which I'm happy about, but I know you TX moms are probably going to really get slammed.....
It's moved some North for us Kaye so we're not in the clear yet... I don't know how to attach a picture.
Here's this morning:
I talked to dh's parents last night. They are getting prepared to go to Austin, where one of dh's brothers lives. I don't like the new path, it brings it up to us. They said on the news that we will be getting some heavy rain from this. We are in Oklahoma.
