am I missing anyone? I hope not...stay safe with your evacuation plans. Check in when you can.

By Mom2three1968 on Saturday, August 30, 2008 - 10:16 am:

Hope all are safe, and on their way, my dks are in Mississippi, they left at 530 am.

By Karen~admin on Saturday, August 30, 2008 - 03:12 pm:

We have arrived......I am exhausted. We left @ 6:00 this morning.....met up with a couple outside the motel from Memphis, who have relatives living in Lakeview in N.O. - they left @ 10:00 and had been in the car 3.5 hours, and were trying to get to the I-10/I-59 interchange to head here and were stuck - they should have normally reached that point in 45 minutes. I am SOOOO glad we left early! Apparently traffic is *really* bad now.

This storm is strong......145 MPH winds now, a Cat 4. Our local officials were concerned about some flooding in our area, glad I left. And if it goes elsewhere, then I'm out a bunch of money, but safe! LOL

By Mom2three1968 on Saturday, August 30, 2008 - 03:30 pm:

My dks should be in Georgia by now, yes they are in Georgia but not to Albany yet.

Karen, glad you made it to your destination, I am so glad that you all and also my dks left early, what a relief! Now we have to hear from Pam and Jeanne right?

Hope they will be alright!

By Bobbie~moderatr on Sunday, August 31, 2008 - 12:03 am:

Karen, the local news said it might reach a Cat 5 and the scope looks like it is going to hit NO again??? I am so hoping it looses steam.. All are in my prayers..

By Karen~admin on Sunday, August 31, 2008 - 09:03 am:

It weakened more than they anticipated passing over Cuba last night, back to a Cat 3, but is expected to strengthen back to a Cat 4. From the track this morning, and what are saying, our area could possibly suffer some serious damages. I have the maximum on flood insurance and upped my homeowners' coverage this year, so we're good there *if*..........

I WILL say - the local Parish officials and the Governor in LA are doing a MUCH better job so far, this time around....maybe they actually DID learn something from Katrina....

By Kaye on Sunday, August 31, 2008 - 09:28 am:

NO is going to get a bad hit. Glad you evacuated! Post when you can!

The news coverage looks like things are going much smoother than either katrina or rita!

By Yjja123 on Sunday, August 31, 2008 - 09:33 am:

You are in my thoughts and prayers!

By Mom2three1968 on Sunday, August 31, 2008 - 09:36 am:

Now Hannah looks as if it is going straight for Florida, maybe my dks will have to evacuate Georgia and go somewhere else. But for now we worry about Gustav...

By Karen~admin on Sunday, August 31, 2008 - 10:25 am:

Kaye, I am afraid - that's why I leave. As much as I'd hate to lose my house and everything in it, I am not one of those people who would stay behind to make sure their house/stuff is OK. I get scared in the hard thunderstorms we get. I totally freak out when I hear the tornado sirens. There is no way I'm staying behind if there is a chance a storm this big will hit us.

Yes, I'm sick and tired of evacuating....this is our 5th one in 11 years. The worst and longest (so far) was Katrina, and all the others ended up not really being anything for our area, except Katrina.

This one, however, scares the poop out of me. So I complain about having to leave, but I am SOOOO glad we did.

By Kernkate on Sunday, August 31, 2008 - 11:45 am:

Karen Glad to hear you are safe and did evacuate..You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

By Tink on Sunday, August 31, 2008 - 01:31 pm:

Everyone in the path is in my prayers. I'm glad to hear that you are safe and sound, Karen.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Sunday, August 31, 2008 - 01:35 pm:

I am having some major concerns over the far reaching effects this storm, and the pending storm season, will have on our already struggling country. These storms impact us all.. Some more so than others but it all ripples out to us all.

The people that live down in the area of land fall and our nation in general are in my thoughts and prayers.. God bless us all...

By Karen~admin on Sunday, August 31, 2008 - 01:53 pm:

Bobbie, you're right. The oil/gas industry will be affected, for sure. New Orleans is a port city, a lot of commodities are transported from New Orleans up the Mississippi River via ship and barge - this storm will impact that in a big way.

By Bea on Sunday, August 31, 2008 - 03:47 pm:

Just happy that you are safely away, Karen. Stay safe. I'm praying that Gustav will fizzle soon.

By Momofmax on Monday, September 1, 2008 - 10:57 am:

We finally made it to Ft. Worth, TX. It took about 14 hours to get here - normally would have taken us about 9 hours. So far, we haven't been hit as badly as they thought but it's not over. I'm on the Westbank in Plaquemines Parish so we are expected to get hit hard. I'm pretty scared... at least we are not there. I have a neighbor who stayed and he says the streets aren't flooded yet. Yeah! The next few hours will tell. DH and I are talking about moving. It's definitely on our minds.

I second Bobby and Yvonne. Lots of thoughts and prayers for all of you.
