Crazy homework assignment
dd is a senior and taking the AP english class. For homework, she has to come up with a list - including author and page numbers of EVERY SINGLE book she has read since entering high school as a freshman. My kids read constantly, easily a book per night. I think this assignment is nuts. We are hoping the library keeps a list of all the books she has checked out and that we can have access to it.
That is crazy! One of my dds reads books constantly, even walking into stores, sometimes two at a time...there would be no way she could write down every book. The teacher probably wants to see who is an avid reader. Your dd could write down her favorites, the ones that she remembers and note that she can not remember all of the books she has read because she reads many books.
What is the point of the assignment??? I think it's crazy also! I can't see the purpose of doing this? I would really be considering asking the teacher what the objective of the assignment is, but I'm picky. I read constantly and can't imagine having to remember what I've read. Ugh.
Oh, is that all...just has to remember 1000 books?? LOL hmmm... I agree with just writing down her fave's or what she can remember. It sounds like busy work to me.
How is she supposed to remember every book she's read? You're only finding out about this now, when she could have kept a list, since she was a freshman? Sheesh. I tried asking about books I'd previously checked out and they said they don't keep those records.
I agree with all above. And the number of pages? What earthly (or pedagogical) purpose would that serve? But, it is an assignment. So, your daughter goes off the library and just starts walking down the shelves, picking up the books she remembers reading, and writing down the title and author and number of pages. And finishes, as proposed above, with "this is all I can remember because I generally read X books a week in addition to reading assigned for school.
I wonder if the assignment is going to be some sort of comparison, like people are readers or not readers, etc. I assume she wants page numbers so people don't just write down titles and actually think about the books they read. I can't really imagine she wants a complete list. But then again I am assuming it is going to be a tool for another project.
I bet she can just look it all up on the internet and make a list from memory...I'm also curious as to what the teacher has for an objective. Typically, good readers are good writers so maybe he/she wants to show that to the students...? Not sure...
