Sacrifices for the cost of living these days.
I came to the conclusion yesterday that having my hair touched up every 6-8 weeks at $90-$120 each time wasn't worth it anymore. So I went to Sally's beauty supply and bought some hair dye and went back to plain old brown. I think I like it but i'm not sure yet. Going from bleached highlights in my hair to brown is a big change! LOL Are there any recent changes you've made to adjust to the rising cost of living?
I am working at my daughter's dance studio one day a week to cover the cost of her dancing. Less shopping & less driving. Less prime cuts of meats, etc.
Probably less shopping, too. DH is looking into possibly dropping cable and getting ATT U-Verse instead. It appears to be cheaper and possibly more HD channels. Just haircuts at my house, but that's always been that way.
I received a gift cert to the nail shop at the beginning of the year and I was keeping them up but stopped at the beginning of summer. They looked nice but not worth the money. I will not stop going to my hair stylist. I colored my hair for many years myself and it was damaging to it. I finally found a great colorist. I go every three to four months. I do stretch it out a bit. I may be living under the bridge in my van but at least my hair will look nice LOL
I'm now getting my haircut at the beauty school nearby. $13 haircuts, and they are really good haircuts, because the girls are very thorough and careful, and the teachers check their "work" when they are done. We try to eat out less, go out less. But we aren't doing very well with that I do try to drive less, or at least plan out where i'm going so I don't drive back and forth unecessarily. We cut out the voicemail on our phones and went back to the answering machine (i never liked voicemail anyway)
Patti, that is a great deal for a good haircut! Do you take the kids there as well? I feel guilty because I go in to have mine trimmed about every eight weeks. It should be six, but I let it go to save some money. On the other hand, I've been trimming dd's at home. She doesn't like to go to the salon, and her cut is a simple bob hair style. Still, I know it would look much better if we had it done professionally. The place we were taking her (one of those just for kids) charged $20 for a trim. Last time I was in to my stylist, she said many of her clients are going longer in between cuts to save money. I guess a lot of us are feeling it.
I only pay $4 for a haircut and i still don't go very often at all lol...I just had my hair straightened though and that was $20+ tip and another tip to the girl that redid it a few days after the first...it was too wavy for me and so i went back and had it redone.I need to start using my coupons again really getting into it again but i haven't yet.
It's funny and a little "hippy" but I now bike to the store 90% of the time and bring Connor in the Burley. I also bike him to school once a week, which is 12 miles round trip. Scott is looking into a vanpool because his new job is 45 min away and we shop *way* less! We go out to eat once a month and that's good enough for us! I think it's a good thing...it's teaching us what we need and what we don't need. Living in various apartments without all our "things" last summer really made us think about that so we also had a garage sale.
