So sad
I don't know why i'm even feeling this way considering the years I spent working with animals, but my dog is currently at the vet getting spayed. (Well, it's probably about done by now, she's probably waking up). I've felt so sad for her all morning and so guilty. I just know she's going to give me those sad puppy dog eyes when I pick her up wondering what she did to deserve this. I KNOW it's for the best of her and I would do it regardless but i'm a bit sympathetic today. How lame of me! LOL On the flip side though, at least I don't have to worry about my darn neighbors unaltered pit bull who has been after her for the last few weeks. She's only 5 months old and nowhere near having a heat cycle so I don't know what his deal maybe. Maybe it's because she's now 60 pounds and as big as him??? LOL I'm sitting here a bit impatient waiting for the phone call that everything went well.......
I hope that your puppy did well with her surgery. You ARE doing the right thing. Besides the fact that you do not want her to have puppies, it is better for her health. I'm sure you know that, having worked for a vet. It reduces the chance of breast and uterine cancer. Let us know how she is. ((HUG))
I know exactly how you feel. Everytime Ive taken my own dogs, or a foster dog to get fixed(only females)I feel horrible. They are always so stiff and look in pain when they get home. Usually within 2 days, they look like their old self ..but getting them fixed is much better then the alternative, either puppies, or the bleeding twice a yr LOL
I know how you feel. I have to take Gracie, our 5.5. month old Goldendoodle in to be spayed on the 12th. I'm already feeling sorry for her! I hope your baby is doing well. Getting her fixed, is the best thing, though. No puppies, no heat cycles, no marauding males. I felt bad when Jasmine went in, for her spay surgery, but she felt better within a few days and we had a hard time limiting her activity. Her incision healed up fine and you can hardly tell where it is now. She just looked funny for a while, until all the fur grew back!
Well she did good. She had sad, droopy eyes when I picked her up and she was whimpering a bit on the way home. I gave her pain pills when we got home (she had a pain injection after surgery too) and gave her a little food and water. I ended up having to run over to Petco 10 minutes before they closed to get her an elizabethan collar because she's a licker! Today she's perking up a bit more but I felt so bad for her last night. I've never had a dog be such a baby about this procedure and she sure was milking it. Poor thing. I'm glad she's happy today though. She's still kennel training so that is working great to keep her confined and inactive.
Jasmine licked her incision once or twice. She had internal stitches, so it didn't seem that they bothered her much.
Just give her lots of loves, dogs forget FAST! She's blaming the vet, not you!
