I about fell off my chair ...
when I got an estimate for our shower doors today. We have four showers (none of which are standard sizes, sadly). Are you ready ... $8,000+!!!! I am still shaking my head ... I figured about half that. Over eight thousand dollars for glass and metal ... Now, I'm checking out ebay. It's got to be cheaper somewhere ... If only I'd listened when people cautioned me about building a house ... Thanks for the vent. Ame
Check with a stained glass shop. A lot of our local ma/pa glass shops do shower doors and they are cheaper.
Ouch! I hope Ebay works out for you.
Why do you need doors use shower curtains and curtain rods.
I wish I could ... The master bedroom shower is a steam shower, so it has to have a door that goes to the ceiling. The other bathrooms are all beautiful custom tile which would then be hidden by a curtain. Also, I've only seen curtains used with a shower/tub - can you use a curtain for just a shower with a small step? Honestly, I never thought about curtains at all. I've always had showers with glass doors on them ... food for thought, Tonya, thanks. Maybe I can do the master now and "save" the others for when we have little more cash on hand (like maybe ten years from now ). I will check, Yvonne, thanks. Thanks for the sympathy ouch, Dawn . Ame
OUCH! We have a curtain in our shower stall that just steps up. Doors are beautiful but all they say to me is more cleaning! LOL With lots of custom tile, I'm not sure a curtain would look right, but only you know. Good luck!
They make shower liners for shower stalls, yes, but you might have to get custom curtains, or else buy a normal one and have someone add some sort of hem or ruffle at the bottom. Although, they MUST make shower stall curtains since they sell the liners. Check Bed Bath and Beyond and Linens and Things for both liners and curtains. Also, Home Depot and Lowes sell liners for stalls. You could use tiebacks and tie back the curtains when not in use so the tile shows.
Wow!!! Ditto Kate, they make liners for shower stalls. I saw on HGTV where they used a regular curtain over the liner and then tied it back when not in use. It looked very elegant. I like your ideal of just doing the master and using a curtain and liner in the other bathrooms.
Ame, I can understand your not wanting to use liners/curtains in showers with custom tile - the whole point behind the custom tile is to be able to enjoy the way it looks. I had no idea those would cost so much either. Hope you can find them cheaper!!!
Update ... I had another two estimates and once came in at just under $6,000. So, we are going with it. All the doors will be frameless except the basement bath, which will be semi-frameless. Best of all, the doors can be ready in two weeks - as opposed to the 5 to 6 week lead time I got from another installer. Well - this was it, the last big decision/purchase!!! Ame
Ouch!! But good news none the less.
I bet they'll be pretty!
