Long Weekend
I'm enjoying a day of relaxation after a long weekend. Maybe we'll go swimming later but as of now, i'm in lazy mode! ;) Saturday started with a birthday party for a friends 2 year old son. When she made the birthday party at the beach, I guess she also forgot that the finish line for that days Triathlon was in the SAME SPOT! We had to park about a mile away and haul presents along with other supplies she forgot at home down the the party. The party was far from organized so in order to get things moving along I stepped up and pretty much hosted the whole thing. At least she admits she has no idea what she's doing when it comes to that kind of stuff. LOL Everything went well and after nearly 5 hours (we helped set up and clean up) we finally got home and felt like our whole day was taken away from us. We ended up going to the neighbors house and letting the kids play until bedtime. Yesterday we went to my dads house for the day. I guess it's generally relaxing there but it's the hour drive each way that I hate. I think I would hate it less if HE made that drive too! ;) Anyways, I always end up leaving there feeling nauseous because there are 3 heavy smokers in the house along with 6 dogs, 4 cats, 2 birds and a ferret. We don't go very much because of the smoke but I also don't want to deprive the kids of their "grandfather" (lightly used) so we go every 2-3 months or so. Thankfully the kids play in the backyard most of the time. We got home at 8:15. The kids fell asleep in the car so they went straight from the car to bed. Yay! Anyways, how was all of your weekend? Any fun plans coming up? Vacations? How much longer are your kids out of school?
Well, from reading my post about ds's surgery you know what I did all weekend. Pretty boring... My kids go back to school Aug 18th. This summer is flying by so quickly. We haven't done anything special just hanging out, pool, beach, movies, mall that sort of thing. We don't have summer plans, partly due to the fact that I took the kids away on their spring break, but are going to MA in Sept for week to attend my neice's wedding. So we are looking forward to that time. You did have a busy weekend. I'm sure your friend was glad of all of your help
We just returned yesterday fr vacation. First we went to Hershey Park for 2 nights/three days along with another family. We also took ds' bf from school with us. We spent an avg of 7 hrs/day at Hershey. DH was exhausted so he would leave alittle earlier for the hotel. We had so much fun. We returned late on Sat night. Since we live in Northern VA, we drove there (approx 3 hrs). Early next morning we flew to Aruba for 7 nights/8 days. For those who've never been there, I highly recommend this little island. It has some of the best beaches we've been to... comparable to Hawaii. DH actually like these beaches more. We stayed at the Westin and the beach there was so gorgeous... waters were clear, calm, warm and very shallow. Perfect for little ones. We went down on the Atlantis submarine and saw so many beautiful fish, coral and two shipwrecks. We actually sat on the ocean floor at about 150 feet down. The dks most popular activity though was the island expedition tour via ATVs. I had Jordan in front of me and Josh rode with dh. We toured the entire island's hot spots on the ATVs. Much of the route was on the beach/dirt roads designed for ATVs and sand buggies, so lots of turns and hills. The last stop was "Baby Beach" where we swam and ate until sunset. Of course, since I had Jordan I was the slowest in the group. Jordan kept yelling "faster faster... I don't want to be last!!" It was an absolute blast and now the only way we'll ever tour any island!! We didn't plan this trip and only booked it a few days before we left for Hershey. We were looking into going to Ocean City, MD for the week and when the hotel prices were so high, we decided if we're going to pay that much for hotels in MD, heck, let's just go somewhere really nice. Hence - Aruba! Again, I would recommend it to everyone. Weather is great - low to mid 80s - and a cool ocean breeze and it hardly ever rains there.
we leave Saturday morning early for Prince Edward Island. It's just over 600 miles, so I want to leave as early as possible. Dh might be taking his motorcycle up, and if that's the case his trip may take 2 days. Dh's aunt called me this morning and they are all very excited about us coming. I just hope the weather holds out, it's been sunny and low 80's with a sea breeze all summer she said, which will be a welcome change from the almost daily t-storms we have been having.
My tand the dkd's stayed local this weekend. We went to Six Flags America ( 15 minutes from house) got stuck on the very first ride that we got on. My 4 y/o ds adn 3 y/o cousin started crying they wated to get off we where on a water ride adn got stuck abotu 2 ft from goging over the top so we where pretty high but it could have been higher. My cousin adn I where tryign to calm the kids down, asked if we could get off and walk down ( ramp on the side, which they used to walk upa dn talk to us) but thye would not let us off, so after sitting in the hot blazing 90+ degree sun for 20 minutes waiting for maintience we started moving and went on down with the ride. After that we went to the water park a little and left with out riding anythign else. Saturday my two kids, myself and my girlfriend all went back to six flags but not to ride rides but to see Boys 2 Men in concert, they where great. Picked up my grandmother fUnion Station last night , she is here visiting from NC, but unfortunely I have to work the only day I can get off is the day that she is leaving.
Posted too soon sorry.
Sounds like you were busy! You are a good friend! I am sure your friend appreciated your help!! I envy you ladies that live so close to the beaches. Three smokers in one house...I'd sit outside when I visited them! That would really stir up my allergies. We were on vacation the week before last. So this weekend we just hung around the house. I studied for a final exam. We swam several times. Blake and I picked out this water light show deal and swam at night with the lights. They were cute. This week we are getting into house cleaning mode!!!
Wow, sounds like you all have been busy. Melissa, I'm sure your friend was glad you helped. Conni, 3 smokers in one house would do me in, too! At Christmas, we actually have 3 smokers in the group: BIL, nephew and his fiance, but they always smoke outside. DH had off from work today, because he's working Saturday for one of the other photographers, so long weekend this weekend and short weekend next week. Oh well. Since I also didn't have to work and the kids didn't have anything planned, we skipped town and went to Milwaukee, WI for the day. We went to the Milwaukee Public Museum, to look at exhibits for a few hours and then go to an IMAX movie. I think they spruced up the Native American exhibits on their second floor. It was like we hadn't ever been there before, and we visit this museum often enough to remember things from before. It was really interesting and where we spent most of our time. Mondays are "Free Admission" days for people in Milwaukee County, so it was busy and lots of kids, so it was pretty noisy, too! LOL! The IMAX movie we saw was called, "Mysteries of the Great Lakes." View Trailer They showed all the lakes, but mostly Lake Superior, it seemed. They did show Niagara Falls for a little bit and you got to "ride" the Maid of the Mist! That part was nice, because you could really see the water coming down over the edge, without the distraction of it getting you ALL WET! We rode the Maid of the Mist, in 2005, so early in the morning (9:15 to 9:30am), that it was hard to look at the top of the falls, because the sun was right there and it was so bright. I really got the view, in the movie, that I wanted to see, when I was on the boat. It was also hard to see, because you are being rained on, from the falls, too! We also got to see a view of Toronto, ON, from the lake, Cleveland, OH, the Mackinac Bridge, and northern and some central WI. We all wanted to see this movie, because we live on the Great Lakes AND because we knew we'd get views from our recent vacations! Our tummies were happy, too, because we got to eat at Panera Bread for lunch and Noodles for supper. We are Panera/Noodles deprived, in Sheboygan.
