Front loaders ... one more time ...:)

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive July 2008: Front loaders ... one more time ...:)
By Amecmom on Saturday, June 28, 2008 - 10:04 am:

I am trying to decide whether or not to take my front loaders with me when we move. I have a set of Kenmore Elite He3t and He3 (dryer). I love them. We bought them in 2003 and paid about $2400 for the set.
I am concerned about how they will fair in the move (a short trip) but still ...
I have researched the newer lines and am not convinced they are any better than what I already have - at a higher price point.
Anyone on their second set of front loaders? Most of the reviews I'm seeing are from people who are going from a top loader to a front loader so there is a huge wow factor.
Is the steam technology that much better? When I need to freshen up something I just spray it with a little bit of diltued fabric softener and throw it in the dryer for 10 minutes.
If we were not building a new house with two kitchens and all new appliances, I would just get new ones, but at this point if I can save two thousand dollars, I will.
What do you think?

New house.........short trip..........cost factor.......I think, if it were *me*, I'd keep them and move them for now..........you can always decide later that you want to upgrade, right?

We bought the Kenmore Elite He set with the steam options on both units in January, and I LOVE them. I think I'd probably move them, if I were moving.

Something to consider - when we bought ours, we asked the salesperson what the life of these units was - his response was 10-15 years. Consider that if yours last the minimim 10 years, they are half their age, and probably have a lot of good years left in them - is that enough to make keeping them desirable?

In this economy, I think anywhere you can save a bit is helpful.

I would keep them until they stop working??? Isn't that normal? LOL I will use mine that are now 8 yrs old until they quit working. :) I would rather use that $2000 for something else in the new house!!! Furniture, decorations, etc... :)

I wish you would post pictures of your new home! I'd love to see it!!!

We moved ours with no problems. Personally, I would keep them. I just hate spending money on appliances. I always keep mine until they stop working. There are so many other things I would rather spend money on. Don't get me wrong, I love my front loaders. But, we waited until the old set died, before we bought them.

Ditto Debbie. We moved ours with no problems. I would suggest keeping the ones you have until they stop working.

Did you move front loaders or top loaders? The front loaders are so heavy that I fear they will not fare well.
I went to sears over the weekend, just to check. My model was replaced by the He5t and is about $100 more than we paid for it in 2003. So, I think I'll take the chance and move them.
Thanks,
Ame

We moved front loaders. We moved to Oklahoma a month after we bought them. There was no way I was leaving them behind when they were only a month old. It has been almost 2 yrs. since we moved them, and they still work great.

We moved front loaders as well. :)

Thanks, ladies. After spending a thousand dollars at Lowes yesterday for some bathroom vanity lighting and very ornate crown molding for only two rooms, I will for sure be moving these babies.
I will post pics soon.
