MIDWEST MOMS

With all the recent bad weather, I was just making sure anyone in those states/areas that are affected is OK. Check in and let us know!!

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 - 09:49 am:

We are great! We had a little water in the basement, that forced us to clean up stuff that needed cleaning anyway.

Last night the Sheboygan River, just west of us, in Sheboygan Falls, was rushing rapidly, over the dam and down the river! Yikes! I hope to get some pictures uploaded and videos uploaded later today.

The 11-ft flood level of the river last night, doesn't affect us, though, since we are MUCH higher than the river. I drove past it this morning, though, and it doesn't look nearly as fat and swollen, as it did yesterday.

The flooding is all about an hour south of us, around the Indy area, thank goodness. Major damage. I think 23 counties have been declared disaster down that way here in IN...hope I'm remembering that right. So much damage and loss of property. I'm so thankful that it wasn't us. We got some bad storms, but nothing else.

All ok here in Kansas, we had a couple of tornado scares in the last 2 weeks, but nothing major. The storms have certainly been wicked, but nothing like some of the other states, thankfully.

There have been tornados all around the state of nebraska since the end of may but all have missed my town. We did however, lose our fence and some trees in a very bad wind storm about 2 weeks ago.

More storms tonight... man it's been a crazy spring.

By Pamt on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 - 09:17 pm:

The big floods here were about an hour south of us in the Wisconsin Dells. We've had a lot of rain, but nothing compared to what we got in Baton Rouge.

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 - 10:11 pm:

We drove past the dam, in Sheboygan Falls tonight, and the water wasn't nearly as crazy and wild. Tomorrow, we are supposed to get heavy rains and are already under a flood watch, for tomorrow.

There are some swollen rivers south of me, that could really cause some problems, with additional heavy rain.

It was bad here tonight. A friend in Manhattan is driving home from the shelter now, the tornado passed a couple blocks away, and he said he can't get to his job, because of damage, there were cars flipped over at a local dealership, it touched down near KState, with unconfirmed damage on campus. The tornado touched down west of me, and of course a couple places east of me in Manhattan, but skipped over my house, although there was a touchdown near me. So far everyone I sent a text to after the storm has said all ok, but we won't know the damage until the morning. From what my friend (who has lived here all his life) said, he's never seen anything like this.

{{{HUGS}}} Crystal. That sounds scary. It looks like a line of storms will be in Sheboygan, before too long. They just said on the radio, that this isn't the rain they are worried about. Apparently for us, there will be more rain later on, that will dump 1-2 inches of rain on us, that we don't need.

By Crystal915 on Thursday, June 12, 2008 - 12:18 pm:

$20M worth of damage to KState, and another local town, Chapman, was hit very hard. A bunch of Manhattan businesses were destroyed, luckily the area it hit hardest there is a bunch of businesses that were closed, so not a lot of injuries. My old job had some damage, and my friend who was updating me last night said his job was damaged as well. A True Value store near his work is gone. At least 2 dead in Chapman, and still sorting through rubble, so it was a very bad night. I'm quite shaken, because when it was in Chapman, we still were not in a safe place, and that is literally a few miles from my house. I cannot believe how crazy this spring has been!!!

Dawn, be safe!!

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, June 12, 2008 - 02:25 pm:

Still hasn't rained here yet, but radar shows it's close. WE are under a tornado watch now, too, until 8pm central time.

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, June 12, 2008 - 11:31 pm:

Had a tornado warning tonight. Touched down a few miles away, didn't affect me. I was working. Kids were home alone, but were aware of the weather and were in the basement.

Flash flood warning until Sunday for the Sheboygan River. It's supposed to be 11.9 feet by tomorrow sometime. I'm way high above this river, so don't expect trouble.

Little bit of water in the basement, but less than the weekend, so far.

Thankfully, had a short respite from the rain, to take Jasmine outside.

Freeways south and west of me, are closed, because of water. I've never seen so much rain and flooding, in my life, in Wisconsin. In Cedar Rapids, IA, there is a bridge that is almost submerged in the water. I saw it on the Weather Channel.

I work at the clinic tomorrow, from 8am-1230pm, then a haircut at 1:15pm. Then I can finally just goof off with my kids, because it's SUMMER VACATION, and it's payday!

Oh yeah. The healthcare organization I work for did a market analysis of our pay rates and I'm getting a REALLY decent raise, more than just the annual 3%. Isn't that sweet? It will already be on tomorrow's paycheck.
