Dang it!
Here I was, all ticked off at my brother because his cholesterol was high and I get mine tested this week and it comes back slightly high. It's not bad, really--very borderline, but still. They want me to use diet, exercise and loose a little weight to bring it down and then have it tested again in 6 months. *sigh* I didn't need this this week. First Robin's knees (see post on parenting board) and now this. That, and I've been dealing with flaky daycare parents and cranky, teething babies all week. I'm SO ready for the weekend. Thanx for letting me vent.
The weekend is here, hope it's a good one for you! Sorry about all the health issues, I'll keep you and Robin in my thoughts.
Cholesterol is no fun to think about. Do you like oatmeal? I found a wonderful one that I love. It's Quaker Simple Harvest(I think that's it.) It has whole flax seed in it and it tastes really good. I add a 1/2 packet of splenda. HTH. It's no fun, but maybe just changing breakfast will help. I hope things are looking up soon!
Trader Joe's also sells toasted flaxseeds which are great in yogurt.
I do like oatmeal. I've seen the Simple Harvest, but haven't tried it. Usually I make my own and add applesauce or fruit to it. I guess I should start eating it again (haven't had it for a few months--been doing cold cereal or breakfast bars). I've got some yogurt, too, so maybe I should try and get some flaxseed. Is that different from Wheat Germ? I have some of that. I'll probably get the doctor's packet of info next week in the mail. At least the weekend's going well so far and it's actually been productive!
That is a bummer, I hope you get it down without too much trouble!!! How was your day today?
Cinnamin is supposed to naturally help lower both cholesterol and blood sugar. There are a lot of dietary things you can change to help lower cholesterol. Mine always was low - around 140-150. Then suddenly, in my late 40's, it began creeping up. Now it's around 230-240 - totally unacceptable. For many months, a few years ago, I used something called Pro-fibe that you can purchase online. It's something you can sprinkle on food or mix in water or juice - however it does NOT dissolve - but I never minded the bland, malty taste. I got sick of the taste though after nearly a year and stopped using it. There are other *supplements* you can get if you search around for them that supposedly help lower cholesterol. A friend used the Pro-fibe and lowered his cholesterol by 30 points. Now he's taking some supplement he discovered online. Also, fish oil capsules help lower cholesterol - DH's cardio doc has him on fish oil in addition to his cholesterol meds daily. I am not a doctor and am not qualified to recommend things, I'm just telling *my story*. LOL At 52, I was put on Crestor last September but I haven't been to have my blood work done - SUPPOSED to have done it twice, and just haven't driven out there at sunrise to do it since you have to be fasting. But I NEED to, otherwise we won't know if it's working. Some people take a statin drug for a while, get their cholesterol down, change their diet/lifestyles and can go off the meds. That is my goal. Keep us posted.
Crystal, Sunday went really well. The whole weekend did, really. We got a lot done (yard work--yeah), the weather was great and it was for the most part pretty relaxing. Today was, too actually. Two daycare kids didn't show (third day in a row--Thurs, Fri and today) so it was just the 7mo and a friend's three kiddos (11, 8 and 4). She had jury duty. She didn't get picked, but she sure stressed herself out! lol Karen, my mom's been on medication for cholesterol since I was in high school. When she had it tested then it was 450! She had it tested at one point last year and it was over 1000. I think the last time she had it checked it was around 250 or so. Something's messed up with her metabolism or chemistry or something, but they just can't seem to get it down. I'm taking Omega 3/fish oil now and still waiting for the papers from the doc. I'm also looking at joining a gym that has a nutritionist on staff. Cute personal trainers are an added plus.
LOL, Cat!!! Always the silver lining, huh? I did that when I had a really severe panic attack at work. They called the ambulance, and I was really embarrassed (my building is right next to a fire station), but I figured it could have been worse, I got to see a couple of firefighter hotties, and have them fawn over me!!
