Learned this on a scrapbooking website lol...
but did you know that aluminum foil (most anyways) has tabs on the ends so when you pull it it doesn't fall out? and also another person said that on their car the gas thing tells you what side your tank is on? i haven't went to check that out yet but i did the alum foil lol = )
yes to both of those and yeas they are both true.
That gas tank thing has been going around in a lot of email lately, but it's not always true. It's the opposite in one of our cars.
Brandy, I was curious, so I did a Snopes search on the gas pump icon. Snopes says that this is a false email that has circulated since October 2007. Says, sometimes it will be the case, usually in fleet cars, lease cars, but that it is less likely then so.. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason between the gage and the filler door placement. However, apparently if you take note of which side your muffler is on, your gas fill up is on the opposite side. What good that does you when you are sitting inside the car. LOL
My 2000 Windstar has the arrow pointing to the side of the tank. I heard about this once on the Ellen show a few years back.
How funny. There was a short blurb about the gas tank thing in an automotive magazine I get every month. It claims that "manufacturers who use the symbol have been doing so for at least a decade." So I wonder if some manufacturers use it and some don't?
I have no idea how my low fuel icon looks and I just got to see it! LOL! My Taurus has it on the right-hand side, though. That's all I need to know. I only rarely drive the Saturn and almost never drive the Passat, so I don't really need to know, on those cars!
Our last 3 cars have the arrow telling you where the gas tank is.
the gas "thing"? The lever you use to open the tank or your gas gauge?
I think they mean, it points to the side of the car your gas tank is on. So you don't pull up to the pump, get out and go "doh! it's on the other side!" My Sienna does have this arrow and it says "fuel tank" or something like that.
gas thing = gas pump icon
My 1998 Ford Taurus: gas gauge on left. icon with handle on right gas tank on right Gary's 1999 Saturn: gas gauge on left icon with handle on right gas tank on left 2005 VW Passat TDI: gas gauge more on right icon with handle on right gas tank on right So, it's not really that concistent on our 3 cars. It's the same icon, on all three cars. Even placement of gas gauge isn't consistent with the said that gas tank is on.
My Durango has the gas gage on the right hand side of the instrument panel, pictured is a gas pump, the gas pump handle is on the right but just bellow it is a little arrow pointing to the left, the gas tank is on the left. DH Jeep has the gas gage on the left hand side of the instrument panel, pictures is a gas pump, the gas pump handle is on the right hand side, but just to the left of it is a little tiny arrow pointing to the left, the gas tank is on the left. I just put $75 dollars into my Durango. I had drove it until the fill light came on. Callie and I just stood there in silence watching as the numbers just kept increasing.. I will say that they increased the fill up maximum from $50 on a Visa to $75 dollars.. lol It clicked off at $75, a message came up stating that was my limit on that fill up and that I needed to re swipe my card if I needed more fuel. I just got in my truck and left. I am over full thank goodness, I would have likely passed out while driving if it hadn't been. Gas is 3.98 a gallon..
Oh I also meant to include, the snoops email reference states that the the position of the handle on the picture of the gas pump is the side the gas tank is on. It doesn't reference the tiny arrows I mentioned in my previous post. For us it is easy both of our vehicles fill up on the drivers side, easy as pie.
Bobbie, I have a Durango, it cost me about $80.00 on the most recent fill. It's KILLING me!!! I always use my Mastercard Debit as a credit, so never run into the limit, although I kinda wish I did!! My Jetta was the only one that didn't have an arrow pointing to the side the tank was on.
