This recovery so far is easier than an emergency c-section. I went in on Wednesday, I guess they started operating around 9am and were done by 2p. My hair that was left was one big matt in the back and I guess they put it in a pony tail after I was asleep and then shaved it, because by the time I found the elastic (Friday) - the nurse didn't even think there was an elastic in it, it was so matted, I broke the elastic and my hair was coming out in clumps, I was really upset about it at first, but considering the girl in the bed next to me had lymphoma and lost her hair, I wasn't going to say a word. the scar is like 9 inches, but it's not to hard to cover it. The surgeon was absolutely wonderful, great bedside manner, no push at all to get out of the hospital, I could have stayed today if I wanted to, he said it was all up to me. I was able to shower on Saturday and it's fine, I have a "do rag" that is kind of long and so my hair in the front and side is still there, my dd told me I look like a pirate with it on, so maybe I will get some hoops. Other things that are really minor, but driving me nuts. The steriods are making me have a pumpkin head and that is just awful. I have to keep taking them until Thursday and I hope the side effects of them go away very quickly. I really am getting to much help, but people got the hint that I am ok, so today my sister came by and walked with my youngest to work (even though dh wanted to do it) and then my dad stopped by, but just for a little while. I had my sister drive me to the craft store so I could get dd's bday present and we might go out again tomorrow. So I guess everyone worried I needed more help than I actually do and when they realized I don't need a babysitter 24/7 everyone is relaxing a bit. So I am off to attempt to take a nap, even though I am not one bit tired. Thank you all for the good wishes, Tarable, I am so glad that you are doing well too. My only "limits" from the doctor is that I am not supposed to lift more than 5lbs and I can't drive for a few weeks. so if anyone needs any kind of neurosurgery in the Boston area please let me give you the name of the man who did mine. He is truly gifted and so kind.
I'm so glad you are doing so well!! What a relief!! I bet your husband and kids are feeling MUCH better now, with you home and up and around so quickly. Did your hair fall out because the elastic was left in it??
{{Colette}} So glad to hear everything went so well and your recovery is underway. Quite a relief!
No, not because of the elastic, I think they shaved some more after putting it in the pony tail and then just didn't remove it all. My surgeon just called to see how I was feeling, even though I already spoke to his nurse this morning to make my follow up and told her I was feeling great. I thought that was nice.
I am so glad you are feeling well and everything went according to plan.
I am glad you are doing so well. I hope you continue to improve each day!! It sounds like you have a wonderful doctor.
So glad things went well. Your surgeon sounds like a real gem. And glad you are tolerating all the helpful company (I remember that you didn't want it). You don't need me to tell you that the steroids are to prevent/reduce swelling, because I'm sure your surgeon told you how important it is to take them faithfully. The hoops sound like a great idea - and it sounds like you have your sense of humor working well.
He is a gem. I have met few drs. in my life that really go out of the way to make a patient feel like they truly care.
Colette, I am so glad you are doing so well. Take it easy. One hour at a time... Ask for help if you need it, don't over do it. Big hugs and many prayers.
Colette, It's amazing to me that you are up and doing so much after a surgery that major!!!!!! The swelling from the steroids will go away after you stop taking them. I am thrilled that you are doing so well. But don't overdo it!!!! And...take care of YOU!
Colette, I'm so glad you are feeling well and on the road to a swift recovery. It's nice to hear that your dr is being so kind and attentive. Kudos to your family, too!
Nice to see Senator Kennedy picked the same hospital as me! Wouldn't it have been funny if he had bee there when I was there.
