Me--Blogging? I am COMPLETELY out of my element.

One of the requirements of the Glass guild I belong to is that I have a blog. Oh my, what have I gotten into? Me blogging? Seems very strange.
If any of you regular bloggers have some advice, I would really appreciate it!

Art Glass Blog

I only had time to make the link. After I'm done with my CPR recertification, I'll take a look!

Are you supposed to blog just about your glass work, or about your day, too? If you're uncomfortable about it, I'd just stick with the glass info. Tell what you worked on that day, what went well, what didn't, what ideas you have, what's up next, etc. It looks great so far though!

Your friend's cakes are astounding. What are the pearls she uses?? And how does she make those diagonal lines that form diamonds all over the sides?

I know nothing about the cakes---except they are delicious. :)
My daughter wants to grow up to be just like her.

I think your first entry is just fine! If you talk about your goals, you can talk about meeting the goals or not meeting the goals, etc.

That orange one is beautiful and I agree with your daughter, it looks like a sunset.

From a design perspective I feel that your blog colors are competing with your beautiful artwork. In my opinion I would change to a classic format with a white background put some of your designs in your header with your blog name and frame the photographs of your artwork in black before posting them to your blog.

Because you are using a visual medium your focus should be on your artwork. Does that make sense?

I don't think it is the blog colors that are the issue. It is actually the rock, the light colors of the first two are not popping against it, they appear washed out/blend in. You need to get something behind the jewelry that will make the colors stand out. Black fabric, spray paint the rock black, a darker rock. When you go to a jewelry store they use black, or navy blue, in the cases because the jewelry become the focal point in the setting. With the current pictures I am seeing the rock first and then having to pay close attention to see the details of the necklaces. You spend so much time in getting the details into your work, you need to show case them.. I am wondering what a black piece of fabric big enough to fill the shot and a spot light would do for the detail, I bet they would look amazing. Look at Etsy and take note of the pieces that pop at you and how they were displayed. Pretty by the way...

And as far as blogging, what you are doing right now is fine. The listing of the goals for the day are a great idea and the accomplishments for the day are a nice thing. Shows your progress. Your blogging abilities will grow/advance as you read others and you do it yourself. You are off to a great start.. Congrats on joining Etsy, by the way...

I have a friend that has a knitting blog, she had the same issues with getting started. She decided not to make hers personal and to focus primarily on her work, as if it was a business site. She has shots of the yarn before she starts and she explains the yarn weight, the size needles she will be using, her color choices, and the pattern/design name etc. Then she takes shots of her work in progress, explains how she got to that point, and then she post pictures of the finished pieces. She gives measurement, the amount of yarn and the amount of hours spent on each piece.

Best of wishes.. I happened upon a Martha Stewart show one morning and she had a woman that makes rag dolls and sells them through Etsy on. The womans business took off and now she has employees making her dolls..

I visited your site and I love it. Do you care if I add a link to your blog on my family blog? I'm just getting mine started but maybe it will direct a sale or two your way.
