Shipshewana
Hey everyone, summer is getting closer. I can't wait for the market at Shipshe to open. We live close by and usually just go to the village since they have really nice things also. If you haven't been, go to the Essenhaus Inn and Restaurant in Middlebury just down the road from Shipshe. They have great food. Which is why I still haven't lost my baby wt. Has anyone tried the water park up there yet? Wana Waves. We looked in to see what it is like and they have decent daily rates but haven't tried it yet. Ohh. I am starting to get that summer itch. Get here soon summer. I am ready!!
Shipshe what?! Sorry, I've never heard of it. What state is it in?
Yes, I'm curious, too, although I'm pretty sure it's not Wisconsin! Looks like it's in Indiana somewhere! Shipshewana It's near South Bend, IN. Looks like it's just a little bit east of there.
Oh, well definitely too far away from me. LOL! They have Amish country in Indiana, too? I didn't know that. We're going to the Lancaster, PA area to vacation this summer.
I lived in NW OH for many years and I remember driving through Amish country in Indiana all the time and I loved it!
LaGrange county Indiana has one of the largest populations of Amish outside of Pennsylvania. Shipshewana is a HUGE outdoor flea market style event right in the middle of Amish country. They are open every Tuesday and Wednesday during the summer. I go there to get my scrubs since they range from $10-$16 for pants and shirts. Middlebury is in Elkhart County Indiana and has cheese factories and lots of furniture factories. It is just south of the Indiana toll road 80/90. It's about 2.5-3.0 hours from Chicago. If you ever half to traverse across Indiana, that would be your place to stop for lunch. We have people from all over the country that come here for the flea market. As with many things, I remember it as more grand when I was a kid. Amish Acres in Nappannee Indiana is a great place to visit also. It's south of South Bend, Indiana. Sometimes I feel like the wife on Green Acres. My dh and I are from the city and we live up here in a little town that boasts one stoplight, one gas station, one store and one restaurant. I think the only reason we have a stop light is that that corner is the county line. At least we don't have to milk any cows. LOL. (although I have done that too). Any must see places to visit outside Indiana? Please do tell. We like to travel. Well, maybe not this summer due to gas prices.
I'm in Indiana and have heard great things about Shipshewana but have never been. Everyone always comes back with such cool finds though!
We went there when I was a kid! Great stuff!!! I'll have to remind my mom and maybe she and a couple of her friends can head down there this year. She'd like that and now that they're all retried they have time!
