Washer and Dryer

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2008: Washer and Dryer
By Tunnia on Sunday, April 20, 2008 - 11:33 am:

It looks like we are in the market for a new washing machine and dryer. I have an over/under right now and do not want another one of those! It is too small and has had issues since the week it went out of warranty (no joke!) and it is now to the point that I'm afraid to use either unit unless I'm right there to babysit while they run. The washer regularly shorts out during the wash cycle and the dryer has started mangling and scorching one to two items a week. I think I would like a front loading washing machine next. I'm really interested in a washer that will wash larger loads and use less water and energy. With a dryer I would like a gas dryer that dries in less time and uses less energy. My current dryer has taken more than one dry cycle to dry a regular size load for a long time now and that is just not very energy efficient! Dh keeps talking about the LG machines, but I don't think I want to spend that much unless I have to. I'm sure that there are machines just as good as the LGs for less out there. What machines do you all have? What do you like/dislike about them? What was the ballpark cost of your machines? TIA!

I got my last washer and dryer off of Craigslist and paid for both what one would have cost. They are Kenmores.

We bought the Kenmore Elite front loading washer and dryer in January. They both have the steam cycles. LOVE them. I can wash 10 pairs of jeans at once, dry them in less than one hour. A dozen large, heavy towels also. We have already noticed the difference in the water bill. The time saved in drying is amazing. They were expensive though.....even though we got them on sale and got a 20% rebate at the time.......

Thanks for all the responses! Yesterday my darn dryer chewed up two things. I can't wait to go shopping for a new set, but it'll be at least a couple of weeks before we even have the time to look because our weekends are already full of obligations.:( I can dream until then though.

You know that commercial where the washing machines are being dropped by a crane, hit by a train, and hit by a wrecking ball? Well, we were watching tv a few days ago when the commercial came on and my 8yo said, "You would probably like to do that to your washer wouldn't you Mommy?" I guess he's heard me say "Piece of junk machine!" while I'm doing the laundry a few too many times. LOL

I love my Whirlpool Duet set. It was around $2200 for both (a few years ago). If it died today, I would buy another because it does so much laundry at once. The dryer dries so much quicker. I do less loads of laundry. It is one of my appliances that I thank God for every day (YES---I hate doing laundry that much!)
