Woah. $500 for 3 airplane tickets nonstop to Boise!
I had to wipe my eyes and really read what I was about to buy, but I just purchased 3 tickets on United for a round trip to Boise, ID on Memorial day weekend. Non-stop tickets for 3 people. I'm shocked. Completely. When I checked in January, they were $500 a PIECE. Now, I hope the FAA doesn't cancel the flight or anything...ugh.
PS- Another random "brag"...my husband just brought me white wine..on a *coaster*!! Yes, ladies, a coaster.
Heidi our rule of thumb is we don't fly for more that 150 in the contential us. I have found that if I keep looking we always find the flight we need. My kids fly within tx to see grandparents, and we never pay more than 60 round trip. I just spend a lot of quality time on the airline sights. Good job hubby, I am not sure mine knows what a coaster is!
Wow..that's a great deal. I don't know if my hubby knows what a coaster is either. Kaye...if you ever see anything good out of Manchester, NH let me know. We are also close to Bangor, Maine.
Heidi, what site did you use? We just checked out four tickets to Fl at the end of Aug and non stop it was going to cost us 1,200 for all of us round trip. Is that good, bad? Ame oh - way to go on the coaster ...
I am in houston, we have two major airports that serve us, so it is easy to find deals. Plus really things just are cheaper in texas over all.
Ame- that's bad! We do Florida from Indianapolis easily for $400 for the three of us non-stop, round trip. Outside of going overseas, we've never paid more than $300 for an individual ticket, and that was Indy to Seattle and I literally could NOT find anything cheaper that wasn't a million stops. You just have to keep looking. The sites change by the HOUR (or less), literally. It also pays to get on the airlines e-savers, where you get an email each week with a special deal. We've done Paris (yes France) for $275/person. Air Tran has GREAT deals to Florida from IN at least, but you only get them by getting their email deals each week, and they run about 2 weeks in advance. Heidi-$1500 for the three of you is ridiculous! $500 sounds more like it, thankfully.
That's why we never fly anywhere! It's so expensive! LOL! Although, with the price of gas the way it is, flying might be cheaper anyway.
I havent checked airfare in awhile. I have found in the past, you have to check daily. Sometimes, you have to check several times a day and different websites to find the best deal. The last few times we booked airfare, I found going directly to the airline website was the cheapest. I rather fly then drive anyday. Sure roadtrips are fun. Its nice to see the sights and all that. We have driven to disney and have flown to Disney. I prefer FLYING any day over driving long distances. It takes us 13 hrs to drive there(we do it in two days)> I would rather have those extra days to spend in Disney, then to be in the car. Plus, the driving trip home is always so depressing LOL..Its always sad leaving that magical place, then having to be stuck in the car for 13 hrs, feels more like 50 hrs LOL
LOL Jackie, we would rather drive than fly to most places. When we went to disney over spring break, we came home via daytona..LOL. Then we stop in baton rouge and stayed at a quaint place with an indoor/outdoor pool, oh and we got a suite so we could have some quiet time from the kids after our "magical trip".
Kaye..Last yrs driving trip to Disney just put me over the edge LOL.. My youngest was 2 1/2..and well to say she doesnt sleep in the car is an understatement. Shes one of those kids who loves to sleep inher own bed. We just figured with it being such a long drive would eventually fall asleep..well we were wrong LOL..We did the trip in two days(Went to Ft Lauderdale first). The first day she did not sleep one wink in the car. The 2nd day she slept for a totally of 15 minutes...coming home, she didnt sleep at all.. She was whining "mommy hold me"..of course I couldnt. My older 2 were going between playing nicely and fighting..The stress level was way higher then I could handle..I said "It will be a long time before I do this again"
LOL jackie I can see where you would be stressed out. When my middle kid was about 6 months we had been in cinci on a temp assignment. We were headed home in two cars, he just screamed and screamed. 10 hrs into the trip (it was 16 total), we stopped and I made him get in my hubby's car. I just couldn't take it, well hubby listens to heavy rock music and my son loved it and was a perfect child for him..who knew? Other than that one trip, I have been very blessed by children who travel well. I lived 8 hrs from my parents with my first, I took a trip to see them at least once every other month, often by myself. When I lived in cinci I even took the 16 hr trip solo with the kids (ages 6,4 and 2). They don't sleep in the car, but are content to listen to music and play with their toys. I actually just got a portable dvd player last year (my dd bought it for herself).
Yeah, with my folks, we drove from Wisconsin out to Washington, DC, with three teenagers in the backseat, 18, 17 and 15! We had to take turns sitting in the middle seat, because no one every wanted to sit there. We flew to Florida, for our one trip there, though. I also was in a drum and bugle corps, in middle school, and we drove one year to Marion, OH, for a competition and the next year we went to Butler, PA and then to Marion, OH! So, I guess I'm used to road trips. MY kids travel well, too. Our last 3 years' vacations were all road trips. I'm a very inexperienced flyer, though, since I've only been on one commercial airplane trip, in my whole life, which was Orlando, FL, when I was 19. My worst trip, which was 200 miles to visit my family for Easter, when Sarah was 2-1/2 and Emily was only a month old. Sarah was a good traveler, but Emily wasn't. I was tired and only a month out, from a c-section. Oh yeah. Sarah went through a small stretch, where she would be awake for most of the 200 mile trip and fall asleep within the last 5-10 miles of the trip! Argh. You should see her now! 5 minutes in a car and she is sound asleep! (not driving though!)
