Head scarves
I need to get some head scarves for post surgery. I have looked online but haven't really seen anything I like, and the price ranges are crazy 11.99 to more than $50, Does anyone know of good sites for this?
Could you use regular scarves? I must have missed something, but I recently had surgery myself, so I've been preoccupied. What are you having done, if you don't mind my asking?
brain and spine surgery. They are shaving the back of my head. The scar is anywhere between 5-9 inches long, I will look like a zipperhead for a while. I want to cover it, because I know it's going to scare my youngest.
Several on ebay http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=head+scarf&category0=
Colette, you are going through so much. Simple bandanas in bright colors would be cute for the summer time. I used to wear them as a kid and my dd's are staring to wear them now when we come home from the beach/pool and their hair is messy. They wrap up the back of their heads and tie a knot at the top of the head. ((((hugs)))))
Oh, another thought. Buy some white material or cheap pillow cases, cut down to a scarf size and tie-dye them with your kids. You can all wear them! I'm sure the kids would love to support you and this would be a fun activity for them to help you.
Hobby Lobby sells squares of fabric, that are cute and only 87 cents. They work well for bandannas for my dog! LOL! I'm not sure how well they would fit a n adult's head, though. They seem pretty big on Jasmine, though. They fit around my head, just fine. They also are sewn up on the edges, so they don't fray.
You can try this site: BeauBeaus They are expensive but worth it. Comfy and will keep your head cool, the workout one is really nice. I bought one and had a friend take it apart and sew a bunch more which saved me a lot of money. Regular bandanas will not give you complete coverage, look for larger ones if you decide to go that route. You might want to just get some comfy hats made out a jersey fabric and wear a regular hat on top, the reason why is that when you tie the bandana or wear something like a beaubeau the knot or elastic is going to be at the back of your head most likely where your incision is going to be so it might not be a great option. You may want to consider tying the scarf just to the side of you head if the regular way bothers you. Here is another option: Headcovers Good luck with your surgery.
The beaubeaus are adorable!
Collette - I had no idea that you were going to have surgery. Good grief, girl, you have been through SO much!! I think of you often, and you will definitely be in my prayers and thoughts in the coming months of recovery. I guess I missed that, also. I feel badly that I didn't know. When will this take place, and if you care to share with us..why are you having to have this surgery? I am thinking that maybe scarves will be hot during the summer months? How about baseball caps, or will they not cover enough? I guess a wig would be hot also. There is a girl in my church; a bit younger than myself...she just underwent a radical mastectomy and chemo and radiation. She has had long, auburn hair for the 30+ years I have known her. When she knew all this was coming down the road, her Mom cut her hair in a cute little bob. When it started to fall out, she got a wig in the same style, with the auburn/salt & pepper colour she had naturally. Now that her hair is coming back, it is all grey. However, her wig was so natural looking, no one really knew but the people close to her. And Dawn, don't you just LOVE Hobby Lobby? We don't have any around here, but I get their weekly emails. My former DIL took me to one in Nebraska. Wow!
I posted a bit ago about it. I have a "chiari 1 malformation w/syringomyelia" - which in a nutshell is my brain is to big for my head and so part of my brain is pushing into my spinal column which has also created a cyst. I have apparently had it all my life, I knew about it in 1993, but was told various times to monitor it and that if I didn't have any symptoms, I wouldn't. I just started getting symptoms last month - although minor - went to Boston and they recommended surgery. So I go to Mass General on May 7 for this. The symptoms are more prevelant now, mostly feels like someone is on my back pushing my shoulders down all day - it doesn't hurt, but it is tiring. Also had the headache from he** the other day after jogging so I think that's from it as well.
Colette, when is your surgery date?? I know it's soon.............
Colette, just wanted to give you a ((HUG)).
May 7th is surgery. The neurosurgeon said 5 days in the hospital post surgery and longer than that 1-2 weeks before I can shower...YUCK! Honestly, I wish it was tomorrow, I just want to get it over with. you would think with everything they can invent, someone would come up with surgical staples that can get wet. Thank you for the hugs, prayers and good thoughts. I am trying not to think about the surgery itself, because I have no control over that, so instead I am trying to get in the best possible shape physically and mentally before surgery. I also trying not to dwell on the fact that I am going to look like a zipperhead...
It isn't just the staples. I think because they are working with your spine and brain, that you can't shower, because one day after both of my c--sections, I got to shower.
you were lucky! I was 2-3 days after my sections.
Got a bedbath the first morning after, but the next day I was in the shower.
It's not *just* the staples, you cannot risk bacteria entering your spinal canal through the incision. I couldn't get my back wet when I had staples in my back. We found a way around that, but being that you are having brain surgery, I wouldn't risk it.
Yeah, Karen said better, what I was trying to say! LOL! Bacteria in the spinal canal would be a bad thing! Karen, did you have to take sponge baths?
