Earthquake in Illinois
The epicenter was about 350-400 miles away, in West Salem, IL, but waves were felt as far north as Peshtigo, WI, which is probably 1-1/2-2 hours away from here. It happened about 4:35am, according to the news we were listening to, this morning. Everyone slept through it, here. Although, I'm betting the dog noticed something weird. It was a 5.4 quake. Earthquake
WOW!
They are reporting on the news in Springfield, Missouri that people felt it as far as the areas around Springfield, Missouri.
The people I work with all felt it but I sleep like the dead so I didn't feel anything. We are in Central Illinois.
We had a 4.5 aftershock around 10:20. I'm on the 11th floor of my building. I felt that one.
Some people here in TN said they felt it too.
I felt it in central Indiana around 5am-ish this morning. The monitor in Nat's room starting rattling uncontrollably and I could hear it in my room and it woke me up. I couldn't figure out what in the world it was! I got up to see if she was up and moving around in there and making the floor shake, even though I knew I couldn't hear her. Then I heard a really loud whoosh, almost lik ea gust of wind, and the whole house creaked and shuddered in one swoop. Then the rattling monitor slowly stopped. It was weird!
I felt it around 4:27 in the morning, at first I thought it was a tornado, the bed was shaking, the windows were rattling, but dh knew right away what it was. Both kids were in our room in a matter of minutes, ds sleeps in a loft bed, he fell off the ladder and landed on his back because he lost his footing, after we thought it was over I went in to use the bathroom and the toliet was shaking!
I was in school in Fort Wayne Indiana and we felt an aftershock around 11ish this morning. Weird, but not the only earthquake in Indiana. My dh and I both remember one from when we were young that rocked NE Indiana.
I live about 20 miles from West Salem and it shook our house for what seemed like forever and freaked out the cat. I also work in a town that is only about 5 miles from West Salem. The quake or after shock that occured after 10:00 this morning was a good one! It sure rattled the building! We have been looking at all the articles about "THE BIG ONE" we are overdue for...makes you think!
