Morning sickness, yea right ...try all day sickness....

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2008: Morning sickness, yea right ...try all day sickness....
By Anonymous on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 - 11:10 pm:

I'm not totally ready to out myself yet, but I'm the one from the prayer board that is early pregnant.

I'm having ALL DAY sickness, I'm trying everything I've heard to feel better and so far nothing. I eat - I throw up, I don't eat- I throw up... I breathe - I throw up. I guess you get what I'm saying. :-) I keep telling myself to keep my eye on the prize at the end but boy is this getting me down. Any suggestions? What helped for you? HELP!!! My appointment isnt' until May 7th to see my doctor but I may put a call in to see if he has any insight as it's imperative I keep my medication down.

ginger suckers !!! they work ginger tea ...

By Annie2 on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 - 12:38 am:

Keep saltines by your bedside and try to eat some before standing in the am. :)

Ditto ginger lollies.......if you can't find them anywhere, try HERE.

I had all-day-sickness with Jen, and it was the worst thing ever. I was actually put on some pretty heavy duty meds for nausea.

If nothing else, when you get up in the morning, drink some VERY sweet hot tea - FIRST THING - because if nothing else, throwing up sweet tea beats throwing up bile any day of the week.

I'm sorry you are having such a rough time - it sounds like you need to be on something to help with your nausea, at least for the time being. Perhaps your *other* doctor can give you something for this, until you see your OB?

I had all day sickenss with my first two. I found that cold things helped. I ate popscicles, icees, etc. But even cold cold watermelon seemed to settle my tummy a little. The hotter it was outside, the worse I felt.

By Luvn29 on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 - 08:10 am:

Root beer and phenergan! The phenergan is prescription nausea meds. It was a life saver for me because I threw up all day the entire time. The phenergan stopped it mostly. Sometimes I would still throw up, but it sure beat doing it all the time.b

By Bellajoe on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 - 08:32 am:

ditto Annie, Saltines worked for me too.

I hope the all day sickness goes away soon so you can enjoy your pregnancy!

No suggestions but I wanted to give you a (((HUG))) poor thing.. Keep the prize insight and call the OB's office and see if you can get in sooner.. If not call your **other** dr.. You have to keep your regular meds down.. More (((hugs))) and lots of prayers.

I was nearly hospitilized with my last two because of dehydration, and very sick with the first two as well, so yeah I know what you are saying.
With my last I sipped on Hansens Ginger Ale all day, it is the natural Ginger Ale so it has ginger, the green can doesn't (can't think of the brand name, I didn't try the ginger pops but bet they would work, it's important to get REAL ginger not flavoring. Also I got a homeopathic from my midwife called Nux Vomica. This combination worked wonderfully for me. Saltines didn't work for me!

You also might not be able to tolerate the prenatal vitamins...ask your doctor over the phone and they should be able to help you! Or, look online...
Prenatal vitamin sickness

By Enchens on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 - 01:37 pm:

Heidi, you are so right. The prenatals were AWFUL! I'd forgotten about that.

I was sick all day every day for nine months with the first and eight months with the second (born early). I tried all kinds of stuff. There are several good suggestions here. I'll just add maybe trying mint tea or chamomile tea-they are safe to drink during pregnancy. I also tried small sips of colas every so often. There are some preggie pops at Motherhood maternity that I've heard are supposed to help. Everything else I've tried has been mentioned. If absolutely nothing works, you might consider asking for meds. I finally had to and they helped a lot in terms of keeping food down.

And yes, Karen, ditto on the sweet. Figured that one out about 2/3 of the way through my first pregnancy. :)

I hope you find something that works for you.

I couldn't tolerate the prenatals during the day so I started taking them right before bed and had no trouble from then on. They made me feel like chucking ALL the time!

By Eve on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 - 02:48 pm:

I was super sick with pregnancy too. Nothing really worked for me, but icy things helped and eat whatever you think you can keep down, no matter how unhealthy it may seem. Preggo Pops or ginger tablets. I tried the b12/ unisom combo. Really nothing helped me...

Phenergan didn't work for me, but Zofran was a miracle drug for me! I got the ones that disolved under your tongue, that way I could get it into my system before throwing up. I felt queezy, but I could at least eat and function.

It is the worst feeling in the world! Hang in there. I hope you find something to help.

Oh, yes the vitamins. I had to get chewables for those too and take them at night. I can't remember the name of them, but I think you can even take a couple of Flinstone vitamins. Worth asking your Dr. about.

By Tarable on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 - 04:06 pm:

When preggo with my 1st I was sick all the time and ended up not taking prenatal vitamins at all.. I was told to take flinstones like 2 or 3 at night before bed.. because that is when I was least likely to get sick. If i put any vitamin in my mouth before about noon to this day I will throw up. And ginger ale (the real stuff) was a miracle cure.. I kept a bottle by my bed and drank it and ate a saltine before i even sat up in the mornings. Was wonderful.

Good luck!!!!

By Breann on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 - 04:17 pm:

Zofran was my best friend. I would definitely call your doctor and ask for something to help you. Phenergan supposedly makes you sleepy, so I never tried that. But, they do say that it helps with the vomiting.
The zofran produced no side effects for me. I still take it a few times a week and I'm about 27 weeks now.
I also switched to Flintstone vitamins because the prenatals were not working out with my nausea.

IF you are who I think you are, I am surprised they do not want to see you right away. Won't this be a high risk pregnancy?
I imagine your doctor will be able to advise you on any medications you can take for the morning sickness. I was sick (all day long) for all of my pregnancy. I can certainly sympathize with what you are going through. I hope this is a phase that you are soon over with.
Congratulations on your pregnancy. You will be in my thoughts and prayers!

By Tunnia on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 - 07:23 pm:

I feel bad for you because I've been there with the 24/7 morning sickness too and remember it all to well!:( Ditto on calling your other doctor so that they are aware that you might not be getting the full effects of your other medicine. I agree with Eve on the "eat whatever you think you can keep down, no matter how unhealthy it may seem". You will be more likely to keep it down. Congratulations and prayers for a healthy pregnancy and that you get over the morning sickness real soon!

Zofran is a WONDERFUL med, and unlike Phenergan, which knocks you out, Zofran does not have that effect. However, even generic Zofran is WAYYYY expensive. I have an Rx for it, I get generic, and according to the EOB's from Blue Cross, 30 of the GENERIC pills cost them around $900!!!!! My copay is only $15, but at some point, *I* will be paying more for it in the way of premiums. There IS an alternative, I printed it out, but would have to go into the B/R and risk waking DH to find it, will post tomorrow.

((((( Big Hugs )))))) I can't hardly wait to "see " who you are :)
