Dawn K, and WI moms...
So, we were going to go to Denver to the Mile High Music Fest to see DMB, but I'm not impressed with the rest of the line up, so my friend and I are coming to WI for 2 shows at Alpine in Troy. Any suggestions on local activities? I'm pretty sure the 2 shows will take up a good part of our time, because Alpine is #3 on places to see DMB for both of us, but since it's not a festival we'll have a good amount of time to hang out. What is the closest major city? What are August temps like? Anything I need to see, or should definitely skip while in the area? TIA!!!
August can be hot and humid, at least here by the lakeshore. Milwaukee's not too far away, north on I-43 and Lake Geneva's not too far away, south on I-43. At the summerfest grounds in Milwaukee, that weekend is Arabfest. The newest festival to join the line-up of lakefront festivals, Arab World Fest, takes place August 8-10, 2008. Cuisine, entertainment, and cultural showcases will highlight the traditions, customs and heritage of the Arab culture. There are festivals all summer: Irish, German, Italian, etc. Arab World Fest is the one that weekend. Visit Milwaukee Milwaukee Public Museum Milwaukee Art Museum Milwaukee Public Zoo (Can you tell where I like to go?) Lake Geneva tourism Click on Activities. I can't tell you much about Lake Geneva. I really haven't been there, other passing through it. I know it's a tourism hot spot, though. According to mapquest, Milwaukee is about 35 miles from East Troy, where Alpine Valley is. Lake Geneva is about 20 miles away. If you go to Milwaukee, though, you get to see Lake Michigan! Also, a freeway interchange is under construction in Milwaukee, so if you go there, this might be important: Marquette Interchange Info Most of the road stuff for this is done. They are still building bridges. The old ones are still there, though!
Thanks, Dawn!! We had talked about Milwaukee, since it's close. This is like a mecca trip to us, it's a huge venue for the fans, I'm excited!! I'm still not sure what kind of stuff we will do in town, but I'm glad it's fairly close to a big city!!
Yes, it is! Although, I've been through East Troy, but couldn't really picture where it was. I had to open up a map! Have fun on your trip!
