Kinda Scary
I came home yesterday and noticed something kinda scary. When I went to put my key in the lock, I noticed a indentation in my door molding. It looks like someone tried to pick my lock. I do not know if they couldn't do it, or if the dogs scared them away. There is no other explanation for the damage near the lock. I recently painted the molding, so I know it happened with-in the past week. I am freaked out thinking someone tried to break into my house!
wow, that is scary!
Sounds like they may very well have tried to. I'd photograph it, and you may want to make a non-emergency call to the local police and get it on record. There has been a rash of robberies and burglaries in my immediate area in the last 4-6 months. Homes and cars burglarized during the night or when no one was there. And 4 or 5 robberies @ gunpoint. I have to say, crime is UP here since Katrina. A lot of unsavory types have moved into the area simply because the rentals in New Orleans just are not there anymore. The scary thing for me is that 3 of the *at gunpoint* robberies were either right IN my subdivision or right down the road from us. Last Saturday, a woman was held up @ gunpoint @ the carwash @ 10:30 in the morning with at least 6 other customers there! My neighbor was washing his boat there when it happened. The cleaners right next to it was robbed @ gunpoint 2 months ago. And the school uniform shop at the same time. So I am being particularly aware of any changes to the physical structure of my house because of this. We are also going to get a monitored alarm system. Do you have an alarm system? I would get it on record for your own safety, Yvonne.
Yes! Get it on record! Easter Sunday we were stopped at a red light in front of a deli which was closed for the holiday. There was a couple in their late teens/early twenties at the door and the male was trying a key in the door! He saw us staring at them, kinda smiled and they walked away. Needless to say, we called the police. Ditto Karen on the alarm. Ame
We have door alarms. The windows all have extra safety locks. The dogs (1 in particular) are watch dogs and would attack a burglar. Funny the one that wouldn't (Lab) is the one everyone that visits us is afraid of. I think it is just his size (130+ pounds). He does have a very deep bark though when people come to the door. I spoke with the neighbors and noticed that 1 neighbor had the same damage. Whoever tried to break-in was not successful!
