ALERT!!! - E-mail frauds re federal tax refunds
Now that we are anxiously awaiting e-mails or other information telling us when our "economic stimulus" "rebate" will come, the fraudsters are hot on it. I got an e-mail today telling me I had a $283 refund due me, and telling me to click on the link to provide information so the "refund" could be sent to me. WRONG!!! The IRS never, never, never asks for personal information through an e-mail link. Here is the IRS site that tells about the various e-mail and other frauds, and provides information on how best to forward the phishing e-mail to the IRS. Cut and paste in your Address window - it isn't set up so I can make a link (though maybe someone else can). http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=155682,00.html When you get an e-mail purporting to be from the IRS or any financial institution (even if it is your bank or credit card company), NEVER, NEVER, NEVER click on any links in those e-mails. If you want to check it out, either call your financial institution at the number on your statement, or go to the institution's website through Google (not through any information in the e-mail) and check out the contact information there.
