Caucus Anyone?
This isn't meant to be a debate. But just curious...did anyone else caucus with their vote. I am typically a Republican voter, and in TX GOP does not caucus. But the dems do. I went last night. It really was a facinating (although antiquated) process. I come from a very diverse community and it was interesting to see all these people come together for one. Yes they were picking sides, but mostly they were choosing for the Democratic party. Several people spoke on, even if your candidate doesn't win, support the party. Both candidates are good etc etc. There were about 300 people there. It was very neat, and I enjoyed being part of history in the making (no matter who gets elected it will be a first or oldest).
I don't think we caucus in WI. I have no idea what's involved.
I had never participated. And everywhere is different. However what we did is first you vote. In Texas only 70% of our electoral votes go to the popular vote and they are divided based on the math. The other 30% is award by your caucus vote. So literally, we met at our polling place, the you signed in and picked a candidate. The you went to the clinton or obama side of the room. From that another roll call was done and people were asked about if they wanted to be delegates at the next convention (this is now considered a convention). Then we hand count votes, elect delegates, read and disuss resolutions. All in all very interesting (and slow) process. Those caucus votes are still being calculated.
Ok, you say your a republican. Did you vote at the Democratic Caucus? If so, did you vote for the best democrat or the easiest one for the republicans to beat? From what I understand on talk radio, a lot of Texans voted for Hilary b/c she is easier to beat. Interesting huh?
I heard the same thing. However, I typically vote republican. But I am an Obama supporter. So I went and voted for who I think is the best candidate. If you go just to vote for Hillary because you think it might tip the table to Mccain later, how upset are you going to be if she wins? Just seems risky to me. Plus to vote democratic I had to give up my local voting for people that I typically support. But for me I wanted to support where I think my vote made a difference.
Nebraska had its first democratic caucus this year. Unfortuantely, I was out of town at the time otherwise I would have loved to have gone.
