Cellphone, landline, or both??
Good Morning everyone, I am interested in knowing how many of you have cellphones only and have discontinued your landline to save on your phone bills? Currently we are paying for both but are considering giving up the landline in favor of a new program that Verizon has of a flat rate of 99.00 for unlimited long distance including landline phone calls. I have been reluctant to give up my landline because I have unlimited long distance on that and I use it to call my mother and kids that live out of state. My mom is housebound and I like to make sure that I can call her anytime I want. But the amount we pay in phone bills is alittle crazy! What do all of you have??
We have a landline and each of us have a cell phone. And I still have my old work cell phone, which I will be returning in a few weeks. They wanted me to keep it after I left so they could get in touch with me to answer questions, but it will soon be time to return it to them. I don't use it except for their calls anyway.
I considered this but cell phones were not working after our hurricane. I would not want to be in a situation where I could not make a call!
I would never give up my landline...what if your cell battery dies? I'd never remember to constantly charge it, and I'd also never FIND my cell if it was my main phone...now it lives in my purse, but if I needed it in the HOUSE as well....well...that would be difficult. I usually leave my purse in my car in my garage so that would be a tough habit to break, and even if I brought it in, doesn't that mean you have to then remove it from your purse so you can hear it ring, and then remember to take it with you when you go somewhere, too? Or can you get several cells all with the same phone number? I like my landline phones being in specific spots in my house...very convenient! I have a friend who did this, and I have a terrible time hearing her on her cell and coverage can always be spotty.
I just checked further into the Verizon plan and it is 99.00 for a single line, I don't think it will work for us, I knew it sounded too good to be true. Yvonne, you did bring up a good point with the power being out too.
Keep checking for specials or a package deal, we got a one year special through comcast - internet, unlimited phone and digital for 99.00 a month.
Another thing to consider is, do you fax from home??
We have 3 cellphones for the 4 of us and a landline. I don't want to give up the landline, because if a kid is at home, I want them to be able to call. So, guess who is usually without a cellphone, since we only have 3? ME! LOL! Emily takes it to school, so she has a phone, especially if I'm working and Dad has to pick her up while he is working. I really don't usually need one, anyway. We got cellphones, to do more of our long distance calling, to keep the minutes off of our landline.
Verizon Freedom Package for Landline phones, comes with free long and local distance, ( yes it's unlimited) and that place is what 59.99 a month or maybe a few dollars cheaper, thats what I have. I have prepaid through Virgin mobile and I truly like there prepaid, and it's free long distance with your cell phone, I just wait for my free nights and weekend which start at 7pm with VM.
We have a land line, and DH and I each have a cell phone. We won't give up our land line. Cell service is sketchy in our area, and in the event of an emergency, 911 automatically knows our address when called from our land line.
Ditto Trina
Well, this has given me some food for thought. Karen, I don't fax from home so that wouldn't be a problem. Hubby wants to save on our phone bill and would really like to get rid of one of the bills. I would really like to keep the landline, I use it alot, but also use the cell for keeping track of kids and letting them know my wareabouts and so on. Dandjmom, I will check on the Verizon Freedom package, maybe it's available in my area.
We gave up our landline for about 6 months a few years back and then our area had power issues for a few days one summer and all cells quit working. We had NO phone. I will never give up our land line again. After that we got our land line back nad I lost my job not long after and we went for 3yrs without cells at all and it never bothered me.
