Anyone use a pressure cooker?
I recently got a pressure cooker and let me tell ya, I am loving this thing. LOL Anyone else use one? I have made bbq ribs (20 minutes), a whole chicken (35 minutes) and tonight I am trying a new penne pasta sausage recipe (10 minutes). Anyone have any great tips or recipes to share? This thing is better than the crock pot!
I've never used one but my mom did when I was growing up. She used to make the best beef and gravy. (potroast) The thing used to scare me because I used to think it was going to explode! Maybe that's why it's one of the few kitchen gadgets I don't own
I got one and have used it to make beef stew and stuffed green peppers. Very fast cooking. My DH loves them which is why I started to use one.
I use mine mostly for cooking rice or beans. Normally brown rice takes 45-50 minutes to cook on the stove but I can make it in 20 minutes with the pressure cooker. If you use dried beans you don't have to soak them overnight, it's super fast. My mom used one when I was growing up, the older style and the thingy on the top of the cooker blew off a few times sending chicken soup all over the kitchen but it never actually blew up. The new ones are much more safe. They are really great for soups and stews and I prefer it to a crockpot, I never liked the idea of leaving something on in my house all day when I wasn't there. You can cook most meals under 30 mins.
I love love love my pressure cooker. I have very few recipes. But our favorite thing to do in it is POTOATOES! I cut potatos in half lengthwise, cook for 20 minutes and we have the best baked taters. I cut them up in quarters for mashed or salad. They are soggy and gross, my kids love them this way, we can peel when cooked and it is super easy.
